    Re: Improved stingers/iglas

If I'm in a jet, I just laugh if I get a lock from a Stinger/IGLA, because I know they are never going to hit me. Not because I'm a good pilot, but because they are parp.

Better off whipping out the .50 cal, or even the PKM.

IGLA and Stingers have improved. I have shot down Jet pilots that I couldn't before. However, a skilled heli or jet pilot can avoid stingers by out manouvering them and dropping flares at the right time. Don't expect to hit everything all of the time. I can jink and dodge the stingers in the heli some of the time and then cream the guy that doesn't take the bail out option when he has missed :)

Remember that just because you got a lock on him doesn't mean you are going to score a hit. The stinger has a limited flight path and cant turn as quick as a jet. Wait until the flight path of the stinger matches the flight path of the jet. If you try and shoot a jet that is crossing the map horizontally in front of you you will have no chance. Shoot as it passes you and you have a low variable flight path to improve your chances. If the pilot has not reserved his after burn and flares for the right moment he's toast, but if he has dont get disheartend. My AA K/D ratio is 2.32.

Stingers always were deadly to the choppers, but the attack chopper jink manouver is effective. It's like a boxer ducking a punch. Doesn't always work but makes me laugh when I see in game chat complaining about poor stinger performance. BTW I've seen me shoot stingers at some skilled heli pilots over and over again and maybe only down them once or twice.

I've shot down helos (point blank, mind you) with an MP5, shotgun and a rock.

Just kidding on the last one. Yeah, they had to be really damaged for that to happen.

I loved when I once shot this MF out of the sky with a tank round and he was FAR. I was like "F***YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

LOL! A friend of mine playing as Chinese on Wake fired six total missles at a BH at about 300m range. One of the six hit. The funny thing was that of the six fired 4 had locked and two didn't. The one missle that hit the BH hadn't locked.lol The reason I know this story is because is was on TS with him and standing right behind IG. We both we laughing. Nice patch job.

yeah, the choppers and jets are still just way to powerful and hard to kill..

and dont give me the 'get a .50 cal and take it down, easy!' bs.. because when
a decent pilot has a gunner, they destroy everything in sight circling the base..

The AA is still basically useless.

Well, at least they arent chopper capping as bad as they used too...thats a plus.

I would understand if the guy I was playing with was new to the game but he's not. We both thought it was hilarious.

                      Re: Improved stingers/iglas

The IGLA/Stingers ahve improved a bit i think, faster turning for sure and they seem to maintain the lock for longer when chasing planes. This has the effect on making the planes much more effective though because of the angle of fire and the jets momentum when fired.

I have actually noticed if you time it right before loosing a missile from a higher position then you can STILL hit them even if they flare because the missile seems to lock travel through the planes towards the flare (weird)

I have fired off a couple that would have definatly have missed pre-patch as well, when the enemy is in a hard turn the missile cuts the corner a little bit now so snap shots are more likely to connect.

As for the ground sites, well you still have to use skill judging when to fire, the missiles are HEAT SEEKING and they will target the engine (or afterburners on a jet) so if you fire at a plane or heli coming towards you it will try and hit the rear of the target, and therfore usually missing as it loses lock as soon as it passes it by and re-aquires the lock on the closest heat source DIRECTLY FACING IT in an achievable arc (this can be a friendly on the other side of the map IF his engine is facing you)

Once you learn the optimum angle and direction of attack, the IGLA/Stinger sites are rather effective, the worked before the patch if you knew what you were doing, but they have indeed been improved considerably (IMHO of course)
