Re: great upgrade, but I feel dirty

I think they went too far with the ranks. I shot straight to SMj, and 2nd Lt. is so far off that I doubt if I will ever play the game enough to get there. But it doesn't bother me much, and I think it's good that the unlocks are easier to get for new players.

I think they got the ribbons/badges/medals about right. And I like the other changes a lot. Didn't get everything I would have liked but the game is definitely improved.

I enjoyed reading your post otorhinorrhea!

Seeing a lot of discussion concerning the change in the ranking system. What this tells me is that a lot of folks have been focused on the wrong thing. BF2 is providing the tools for those interested to enjoy a team-based FPS. The reward system has apparently been too tempting and has placed the focus on the wrong objective.

For what its worth, I agree with the comment that the original rank system requirements were ill-conceived. They promoted an unreasonable and unhealthy amount of gaming time even for the stellar BF2 players.

While we could suggest that these ranks are just an indication of time spent playing this game, it is apparent to me online and on various forums, rank means better skilled players which is not necessarily true. The badges, medals and ribbons may be a better indication, but they remain invisible online.

And while I too only can play limited sessions due to family and work, I appreciate that for those who have invested the time in obtaining ranks and unlockables, that the change has been disheartening. In hindsight, DICE should have given more thought to what the ranking system truly represented with regards to necessary gaming time requirements.

In the end, whatever one's opinion is on the matter, if people slowly start not worrying about rewards, and start working even harder on winning the match through teamwork then we will all gain from the changes.

For those who claim they will no longer be interested in BF2 because of the changes to the ranking system I wonder if they really understood where the enjoyment of this game has been all along.

      TS!

Couldn't agree more. The patch improved gameplay, and beside that the whole ranks thing should be just a minor issue.

Getting unlocks makes you mad? You hate not having to worry about rank now? Huh?

I got my four unlocks. I'm happy, since I sure as heck wasn't going to get 5 unlocks before. Frankly, I wish I just had them all. The fun for me is in the battle, not racking up points.
