great upgrade, but I feel dirty

Did that get your attention....<now I step on my soapbox>
Okay, I'll start this off with the simple fact I like the update, I am happy about a few changes (better AA, no BH whoring, favorite servers, etc) disappointed others did not happen (bunny hopping, noobtoob, etc), but all in all it is a nice change.

I will preface this whole thing by saying I like the rank servers, I like having goals for medals, ribbons, badges, and ranks, if you like to play for the sake of playing alone, great for you, I like tangible accomplishments. Now to my rant, so I was sitting in my happy little world as a lance corp, no big deal I was 2/3 of the way to my next promotion at 10,000 points, and I knew it would take a lot of work to get there, but it would be one hell of an accomplishment (yippy for my team when I finally got there). With that promotion I would get my next upgrade, I have spent the last month trying to figure out which new unlock I would get, checking the forums for opinions, taking them off dead bodies to try out myself, figuring out what other classes I liked to use, you know the story. I also knew I would never get that far rank-wise in the game, I have the wife, the 60hr/week job, everything you have to do in the real world. I was also okay with that, it was cool to compare what I had accomplished with the people that had spent major time in the game (I have all the basic badges, the elusive Staff Officer ribbon, things I thought were cool for only putting in as much time as I have).

Then 1.3 came out, I have been excited about the change for weeks now (ever since the first hints came out that it would finally get here Oct 3rd, so what if they missed by a day), I was watching the forums to see what people thought as I trudged through my workday, picking up tidbits on what had changed, what people thought, then a nightmare…….they changed the rank system. At first I was excited, this would mean great quick progress, unlocks ect…..

So I get home load the update, jump in and start playing. I get my first kill, BOOM I get a promotion …..wow I was elated, what a wonderful bonus, instant unlock, but I’m not just going to kill the game now (not when it takes so long to verify (I another think I wished they would fix)), so I stick around. I try out the new demolition point system, and blow up some artillery…BOOM I get another promotion? How did that happen ? So I pull out my gun and kill someone else….BOOM promotion #3…..WTF ? By the end of the game I received three promotions (now a Staff Sergeant), three ribbons, and three unlocks. So I go out pick my guns and then look at my monitor, I feel dirty. I didn’t do anything to earn these upgrades, it feels cheap, yippy I now have three new ranks (so much for all the effort to get to corporal), yippy I now have three new guns to play with (so much for all my research). Yes it is fun to use the new guns, yes I like to see that I have a higher rank than people on the server (instead of there being 90% lance corporals on every server). Yes I like knowing that I get another rank and unlock with 700 more points. But after all is said and done, it feels cheap…..they changed the rules and made it easier, and I don’t really like it. <and I step off my soapbox>

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel the same?

Its part of the game.. people jump to avoid being shot , and it works. "noobtubing" is also part of the game, its a war game and the point is to kill others, not stand still and hope your bullets kill. they will NEVER i repeat NEVER remove bunny hopping and "noobtubing", they may lesson the jump and make the radius smaller for the nade thats IT. Dont like it or cant get passed it?the this isnt a game for you. period.

    Thanks :)

I feel the same way you do, and I had the same exeperience moving up in rank. However, now that I have several unlocks, and rank no longer has any real meaning, I think it will change the game for the better. People will now focus on winning, since it is much easier to gain rank. There is now less incentive to point whore, since gaining ranks does not take as long. There is now greater incentive to play the game as it is meant to be played i.e. defending bases, coordinated attacks, defending commanders assets as well as blowing them up. I too feel dirty for moving up in rank from LC to Staff Sergent, but overall, I think it is good for the game.

Nothing has changed other than the requirements for badges, ranks, and ribbons...you've still EARNED them...sheesh!

It's not like they were gifts that DICE programmed into the patch.

Just pretend that this new ranking system is the way it has been from the beginning. You're where you should be, you have some badges, ribbons, and unlocks. But there are still PLENTY of people with a MUCH higher rank than you, with more badges, ribbons, and unlocks.

So..instead of being one of a million Lance Corporals..you're one of a million Sergeants (or whatever).

        No difference.

I for one am VERY glad...it should reduce stat wh0ring dramatically.

It would be like playing an MMORPG:

-you worked hard to get to level 20 of a max of 40 and have all the spells/skills of a level 20
-they changed the system so that now you are now level 40 with the amount of experience you have accrued...you have TONS of new skills and spells at level 40
-but now the max level is level 80 and there are even MORE spells and skills you can earn all the way up to level 80

        things are simply shifted

            I think it's quite good.

Yeah, they made ranks easier, but who really cares in the end. I think they will add more ranks anyway (I know they've added 2nd Lieutenant, which is the "first" officer badge in the USMC, so i'll assume more are to come).

All this means, is that you need to reset your idea of what is a "high" rank, once they add more ranks and stuff. Once that happens it'll probably mean more, and if it does'nt so what, everyone has a high rank, everyone has guns, now let's have some fun.

As for unlocks, only 2 would be "better" than the original (DAO and Jackhammer), G3, PKM and G36C would be a different style but good as the original, and the M95 and Medic are just ****.

            Not a huge difference.

As for awards, is it really worth making people play there own "class" so much just for some badge or something? Is it worth people thinking EA are insane for making one of the Awards require 1000 hours in transport?

I got Good Conduct Medal, Veteran Spec Ops, Veteran Anti-Tank and Veteran Explosvies tonight, in about 2 hours of play, I still needed 23 C4 kills for the Explosives badge, and still needed 14 kills for Spec Ops and Anti-Tank.

I also feel it'll be still pretty good getting veteran for other classes, why make it such a chore? Why make it so exclusive I would need to spend 150 hours on Anti-Tank or whatever to get veteran?

Honestly, this makes the game more fun, as it means less emphasis on stats.

That's what a lot of poeple were whinging about before the patch, and whilst EA might have done it a little bit more than people thought, it is making the game more fun.

My little brother plays, JoshuaB2, and now he has some badges, and might have an unlock soon, he plays for 1 thing. Fun. He's only 12 or so, but has lot's of fun playing, which somepeople need to do more of, instead of bitching about spawn camping, or whinigng about a certain clan or player, or bunny hopping or whatever. He only sees it as one thing:

            Having fun.

Re: great upgrade, but I feel dirty

I feel your pain as it was cool being killed by someone who had an unlock that you dont have. Also finding an unlocked gun on a dead body was great it made you feel invincible. I had worked very hard for corporal, when i reached it i cheered and then spent about a week trying to choose the best unlock for me. Then the patch came along 3 promotions in three kills, great new unlocks. The next day everyone has the same unlock as you, you dont feel unique anymore (sob). However i killed my first BH pilot with my shiny new M95 the feeling was great, so it kind off ment that the whole dissapointed phase was well worth it, THEN (a complete fluke) i shot a jet pilot out of the sky with my sniper rifle, THAT made the whloe patch so awesome.

It did suprise me getting all those promotions but then I also saw someone get promoted to Private First class. That reminded me that this game is for the seasoned BF2 warrior and the new comers as well. They added more ranks so there are more to strive for. I am guessing that there will be more unlocks coming either with an expansion or with another patch. Just pretend this is the way it has always been :) Hey, its better then having the stats reset LMAO.

Bunny/dolphin hopping is gay - i could do it myself and beat them at their own game, but it's gay and i'd rather not contribute to the retarded playfeel. I would like it if the patch made a short lag between jumping/diving and being able to fire, or at least made the shots crazy inaccurate. Whatevs...

The "noobtoob," however - i have no problem with. What's the problem? It's not that unfair - if you miss with it, and your enemy has a rifle out, you're ****ed; you'll be dead before you can get another shot off. Sure, it will explode upon impact even if that's a short distance from the point of firing, but the person who fired it will die also. I don't understand everybody's gripe that it flies too fast - it's a frikking grenade launcher with a 350 yard effective range - the grenades have to have serious velocity to get that far - they're not balloons, it's a frikking projectile. Get over it.

I agree, things have just been shifted. But like i said in some other posts, they could have just left the ranks alone and instead, gave out more unlocks for each rank you received. Most people wanted the guns anyway and don't care about the actual rank.

If you are one that cares about your rank, it has just been shifted like one of the others above has said.
