I don't think it would be a RAM issue. Especially if he has a gig. Is it just this game that's getting stuttering? Maybe it's your CPU. Could be throttling. Try running RM clock utility (google it) and see if it is throttling. I had the same issues w/ the same configurations. Found out my P4 was throttling so I switched it w/ a spare CPU and it plays fine.

EDIT: Also what are the temps of your CPU when running? And your HDD. How old is it? Is it always loading when playing?

I had stuttering with my 6800 GT with 1 Gig of RAM installed. And a 6800 GT isn't exactly slow!

If you can see the HD light flicker a lot in-game its a sure sign its paging and therefore stuttering.

Increasing the page size will not help as swapping memory on and off the HD is going to cause A LOT of stuttering.

Could also be your power supply about to take a crap.

I dont know what exactly is the problem..

I have several PCs... the "worst" card I have is a 9800PRO/256..
          I also have a ATI X800XL/256 and a machine with a 6800GT/256..
I have tried several configurations @ differant resolutions.. and it
seemed as soon as I bumped any of my PCs up to 1.5GB ram all
of my problems, including the stuttering went away..

yes, I agree, 1GB should be enough for any game..especially with
a $400 video card with 256MB of its own memory.. but I tell you..
1.5GB seems to be the sweet spot with BF2. Ive seen several people
on here say the same thing..

I have since bumped up my main BF2 rig to 2.5GB 3200.. and
          BF2 runs like a dream.

I know what u mean. Right after the 1.03 Patch, I been getting alot of stutters. I even turned down my setting even more just so that I can play (I have a 6800GT, 1 Gig Ram, AMD 3800). And it seem to get worst in 64player maps. Like the rest of you, I have no idea how to solve it. I am not going to buy more ram, 1 Gig should be enough. This only happen after the 1.03 patch, I wish EA or Dice can make something without adding more problems.

I have to tell you, I used to use 1.5gb of ram. I recently took 512mb out and gave it to my sisters pc, I am about to now try the game with that 512mb again. If this works well I am going to complain to EA, 1.5gig of ram should be on the back as MINIMUM! not 512!!!

My CPU runs at about 38-45 tops during gaming. The HDD is a 7200 Baracuda Seagate, its fine. I remembered the lag started not long after taking the 512mb out. I am also about to increase the AGP apature to 128 instead of 64mb.

                Ok here I go..

                  IT F**KING WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I added 512mb of ram, making a total of 1536mb and all problems gone, HIGH SETTINGS, running 50fps smooth as hell.

Guess the power of a little extra ram is underestimated when it comes to this game.

Thanks for all the help people.
