if you were using a ***** crack for version 1.02, it wont work on v1.03

Not using a no-crack, the DVD never leaves the drive.

I was also suffering from the game crashing to desktop, but only when I tried to join any multiplayer server, including ones that I had played on earlier in the day, several days after I had upgraded to the 1.03 Patch.
The fix for me was just to uninstall from the Link in the start menu, then reinstall ( without rebooting ) and then patching to 1.03, all now works fine again, fingers crossed it lasts, and hope it may help a few of you.

Well guess what i hv a new problem after total frustration i decided to delete my computer account and make a new one i installed BF2 i start it i get a black screen and straight away a error message sound comes up but no error message. If i use task manager i can see the error but if iclose bf2 or the error the other 1 closes PLEEZ HELP:cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

I have the same problem.
I start BF2, get black screen, then back to desktop.
Have tried everything mentioned in this thread and others.
Game worked great with patch 1.02.

I'VE FIXED IT!!!! The problem was in fact refresh rates as I've had this problem when I was forced to change monitors. Here's what you do:

1. Check your monitor refresh rate by going to Control panel/Display/Monitor.

2. Check the startup refresh rate of Battlefield 2 by going to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/Default/video.con

3. Change the 'VideoSettings.setResolution' section to the same refresh rate as your monitor.

4. Repeat the process for any other game profiles you have (ie. '001 folder etc).

Here's my computer specs:

BF2 on Patch 1.03
Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD 3800+ on an Abit Fata1ity Mobotherboard
1GB Cosair 3200 RAM
Radeon X800 XL on Catalyst 5.10
WD 80gb HDD
Pioneer DVD-109 Burner
Antec True Blue PSU
15" Samsung Samtron 55E @ 72Hz

I've backwards tested this by changing my refresh rate to higher than 72Hz and it didn't work, then going back to 72Hz and it works.
