I've just become Sergeant Major, and there was one other guy who'd reached the same rank. The promotions were fast and furious for everyone online.

It looks as if they might be doing officer ranks based solely off of points. This would suck. They should take into account your leadership abilities by looking at your commander and squad leader stats. Only certain people with leadership abilities should be commissioned.

PS - I think DICE had intended officer ranks all along. They just needed for us to play for a while so they could get an idea of how fast we as a community earned points.

Yeah, there is a file somewhere in the BF2 folder that shows you all the ranks, the best, the 22nd one is called DICE, the 21st EA... They were there before the updates.
