Re: Patch 1.03 - invalid CDKEY

      Maybe this is the problem:

It looks like the 1.03 patch encrypts the CD-key value in the windows registry. Most likely this is done to avoid the theft of CD-keys by malicious software while you're playing online.

Unfortunately, it looks like this encryption of the CD-key is specific to the Windows User Account that was used to install the patch. If any other Windows user attempts to play the game on the same machine they are given a message saying the key is invalid.

Editor works on Win2k; it just won't INSTALL on Win2k.

I am a bit surprised that there has not been a statement from EA regarding the problems with installing the patch.

                    I found this:

Sometimes a conflict in the updated files can prevent the game from properly identifying your CD-key. Usually, refreshing your CD-key will resolve the issue.

                    Open My Computer.
                    Open the Program Files folder.
                    Open the EA Games folder.
                    Open the Battlefield 2 folder.
                    Open the Support folder.
                    Double-click on the Battlefield 2_code.exe.
Type in your CD-key as listed on the back of the manual and click Next.
The window will close (your serial number is now refreshed in the registry).
If you still experience the error, trying reinstalling the patch files to correct any improper updates. The 1.03 patch is located on the Battlefield 2 downloads page.
                    Maybe this work!

SORRY.. just see that fluffydice had the same answer.. but it was a large link

And why would you be suprised that EA would totally ignore 20% of the Battlefield community. Im sure they have a fix for the install and invalid key issues, there just having trouble determining a fair market price to charge people for it.

Re: Patch 1.03 - invalid CDKEY

Well it WAS a fun experience until the patch/cd-key issue. I initially installed the latest patch and ran the game online with no problems. My son, who uses his own account (XP Home), said he couldn't log on due to a CD key error.

Ok, I refreshed the key. No good. I re-installed patch. No good. I re-installed the game. My account works fine again. No go for his account. Refresh the key again. Now neither account works online once again.

I wonder if I should just keep re-installing this game or wait 6 months for EA to fix this stupid problem?

If you haven't installed the patch yet you can get it from the registry (in plain text). If you have installed the patch and have a "restore point" after the original install but before the patch you could go back to that and then get it from the registry.

i've got the same problems as you guys, fokkifokki and shafik. I also patched to 1.03 cd-key problems, couldnt fixx it with the file in the support folder. So i reinstalled the game, now it just crashes in every version i patch it to. Even in the original version.
btw: i also get patching failed on every patch, so i have to do every patch the hard way!

i've got the same problems as you guys, shafik end fokkifokki. I patched to 1.03 and fot the cd-key issue. So i tried to change it with the cd-key changer, didnt work. So i reinstalled everything, now i get the same crash as you guys even if i install 1.0 clean.

Now i even cant play 1.0 anymore

btw i always get the patching failed problem on every patch, so i have to do it the hard way every time:hmm:

Re: Patch 1.03 - invalid CDKEY

i just found this on the net:

                                SOLUTION:

                                1. Start the patch (no this is not a reinstall - keep reading)
                                2. Select your language
                                3. At the "welcome-screen", do not proceed!.
                                4. Keep the patch-window open and go to your start menu, select "run".
                                5. Write %temp%
                                6. Enter the folder {alot-of-digits-and-letters} and proceed to a a folder with a similar name. For example:
                                {03A9E526-2B99-4AF2-BC50-D26A2CFB516D}\{F317E784-F31C-4F26-A610-2D7BD89FEC5F},
                                7. Double click BF2CDKeyCheck.exe
                                8. You won't notice anything at this point.
                                9. Now your CD-KEY troubles are over (worked for me).

Woohoo i finally can make kills again, and get killed:evil:
