Does this file actually show any information? It didn't for me.

- go to your start menu, then to Run (or wherever it is. i use an alternate shell so i dunno...)

- type in the following: regedt32

- in the application that pops up, navigate to this location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc

- once there, select the value that reads "<No Name> : REG_SZ : some stuff here" some stuff here is not literal.

- hit enter

- type in your CD-Key from the back of your manual. (edit: without the dashes)

- run that program "BF2CDKeyCheck.exe"

now watch the cd-key you just typed in change. that's what it does... just out of curiosity, did it change your cd-key to "x9392"?

It does start with x9392 but that isn't all of it.

No, it's no longer invalid after I run the check but it just kicks me out back to desktop when I attempt to connect to a multiplayer game

Okay here is my experience with it.
Win2k, radeon 9700 pro w/ latest drivers

1)I downloaded the patch and applied it and immediately got the multiple black screen refresh issue followed by the CTD (crash to desktop) others described.

2)Uninstalled and re-installed and got the invalid CD-Key error

3)Got uncharacteristically mad and wanted to break stuff

4)uninstalled and re-installed a few times

5)Tried the manual patching thing on a clean install (never played)

6) got the black screen with CTD...fixed that by looking at the video.con file and noticing it had an invalid refresh rate (I had to delete my profile and then start the game I copied my profile data back into working folder (except for the video.con file))

7) Still getting the invalid CD-Key however, but a look in the registry says x9392 similar to what face got

8) in progress: working on a re-install, running the game in 1.00 verifying it works, patching manually, checking the registry to see what happened to cdkey

Now, I know I don't meet the min sys requirements of windows xp 32 bit, but normally there isn't much difference between the two OS. But it seems like the most likely culprit at the moment.

i also run win2k, for the record... i think it'd be hasty to chalk it up to using win2k, though, as its run fine for me (and i assume for you) up 'till now...


any invalid cd-key problems on winxp (32bit, any "flavor") ?

Right, but remember the level editor won't work on win2k (or 64bit xp) either. Someone at DICE isn't using the cleanest coding practices to begin with so its less stable than it should be.

I uploaded the archive here:

Install BF2 1.00, then run patch 1.03 til it unpacks files to temp dir, use the same procedure as 1.02 bug to install it.

If you don't wanna risk it, grab the unpacked 1.03 patch here:

After installing patch 1.03 run "BF2CDKeyCheck.exe" so it properly encrypts the key on registry.

I have downloaded the patch on 4 diffirent locations (including the one I host) ANd I checked it with the above SFV file.... All ok.....

If you install the patch 2 times, it should work. It worked for me..

Hi.

I had/still have several issues. First of all I had the patch failed issue. I manually extracted the patch files for 1.03 and installed it that way. I then had the "invalid cd key issue" so I ran the BF2CDKeyCheck.exe. Does this file actually show any information? It didn't for me. Now when I go back into the game and try to connect to a multiplayer server it just quits back to desktop

Please help!

This one works for me fine. The first option from Gunny Highway didn't work for me. (first i tried the option from Gunny Highway, Seccond the option from OldSchoolSoldier)

Around 20 hrs aog i installed patch and played few games, all ok and bla bla.
4 hours ago i had the cute news CD KEY NO VALID, and read many forums about, but i didnt try any ... couse b4 my bf2 was working good with patch.

I just tryed 5 min ago and it back work again, no cd key error ....
Tks God, and forgive EA admin.

So if I do a clean install of BF2 from the DVD I do not need to upgrade to v1.02 then to v1.03? I can go straight from v1.00 to v1.03?

Yeh im geting this too .... i couldnt login at first ..,. then it seemed to be fixed.., now i cant play again wtf :hmm:
