While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Btw...fluffydice...did the patch work for you when you doubleclicked it? Or did you get the "patching failed" error?
Yes the patch worked without any faild error messages. Dissable any antivirus like Norton, I know that sounds crazy but sometimes they cause problems. Also defrag your harddisk if it is fragmented. A while back i could not install a programm but it worked after i defraged the harddisk.
I have the same problem with the CD Key. Uninstalled the game, installed it, made a manual install of the patch (otherwise I get the patching failed message). Now when I launch it I still get the Invalid CD Key message. I am so frustrated...
Open magicsfv.exe and then open bf2_patch_103_sfv.sfv make sure the patch is in the same directory and click on the start button.

I remember a while back installing Desert Combat ~500MB and got error at the end of the installation
apparently the issue is not a corrupted patch executable, mine matches your .sfv file (and thank you for providing it) but i still experience the invalid cd-key problem.
edit: p.s. i use QuickSFV and heartily recommend it in place of alternatives
Thanks for the info on QuickSFV :-), i posted it here because people were having CD key errors, but they also said that they had install problems like 'patch failed'
Looks EA did well on this patch. I think my 100 monkeys in a room theory is being proven correct. How could they not catch this crap in beta testing (if there even was any testing)?
It is a shame, i was playing with the new patch on wake island 2007 and it was working like a charm. No laggs or crashes new sounds a different feeling alltogether. Damn shame that people are having problems with this.
Two many cooks spoil the broth theory? i think they should have considered people to sign up for a beta testing group so we could install it at home. Sign a NDA agreement maybe? Na i dont think that would work. But what's better a good patch or lots of leaked information about the patch! i'll go for the patch
The CD-key is in fact encrypted now in the registry, which is a good thing as cd-key steeling malware will not be able to use it. .
If you get the invalid cd key after patching try this.
start the patchinstaller.
after selecting language, press next, and leave it at that.
go into run menu in start menu, type %TEMP% click OK.
Window opens up, press F3 and do a search for BF2CDKeyCheck.exe and run the .exe
now close the patchinstaller and start the game.
Maybe you have to copy the bf2 patch files from the temp dir to the battlefield 2 folder not sure, I didn't try this myself.

I thought so, i checked with keychanger and it just displayed a load of encrypted characters. Good info on the CD key and installing the patch.
Disabling antivirus seems to have helped some people too.
looks like the problem is that the executable "BF2CDKeyCheck.exe" is mis-encrypting cd-keys.
mine came out as x#### (yes, x followed by 4 numbers), which can't possibly be correct.

I had/still have several issues. First of all I had the patch failed issue. I manually extracted the patch files for 1.03 and installed it that way. I then had the "invalid cd key issue" so I ran the BF2CDKeyCheck.exe. Does this file actually show any information? It didn't for me. Now when I go back into the game and try to connect to a multiplayer server it just quits back to desktop
