No offence Dashizller91 but i think you'll find the M16 uses 5.56mm rounds, not 7.62mm.... unless the game is wrong, in which case i apologise.

I for one have never heard this 'battle rifle' term. As stated above the size of the round/projectile doesnt necessarily dictate the type of the weapon. To the original question I'd have to say that G3 is the best assault rifle in the game. In real life some of the best assault rifles (that I've actually come across) are based on the AK-47 design and use the 7.62 round. The reliability and amount of abuse they can withstand without loosing operability is unmatched. However the more modern rifles use 5.56/NATO round and have superior accuracy and less recoil.

But then again, I bet most of You already knew all that: )

M16s were designed around the 5.56mm nato round because they figured that if they got a small bullet to travel very, very fast it would have the same stopping power as the heavier 7.6mm used by their enemies. By doing this the gun would be lighter, have less recoil, a greater rate of fire and be more accurate over normal battlefield infantry ranges than the AK. You could also theoratically carry more of the smaller rounds. In real life they proved troublesome if not kept in tip-top condition, just like any high-tech stuff.

All this is moot anyway, the G36C is by far the best killing machine in the game. You can drill people from close in or at a distance, or switch to single shot and snipe people at the very limits of visual range. Stunning.

more and more armies are choosing the 5.56 round over 7.62 round for assault rifels, for the reasons kenny stated but also because, the 5.56 round will wound more times than kill, therefore effectively doing more damage to the enemy squad, because they have to treat him and then carry him. so 1 round can efefectively take out 3 people from their duties.

I find the M16 the superweapon, at close combat an AK is maybe a bit better, but on medium or long range the M16 is extremely good, very acurate thing, and those 3shot bursts are deadly as hel

My first choise would be the G3A3, its strong, accurate and those 10 bullets less aren't a disaster, and i'd love to see the LMG version of the G3A3, the HK E21 and E23 http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg18-e.htm

as a second choise id go for the L85A1 though it has a Bullpup design it is classified as an assault rifle, descent RF, good damage and the scope great also id love to see the LMG version of this http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg37-e.htm

G3 is the best. It beats AK's, and M16. I can kill so easily with it. It's much more accurate then default guns and does more damage. I simply love it:) On the other hand I choose noob tube on wide area maps (oman, dalian plant) to engage light vehicles.
