Well, the M4 is a carbine and it uses the same round as the M16, 7.62 mm. That would mean that the M4 is also a battle rifle as well as the M16.

I think your facts are a little inaccurate.

Eh, both the M16 and the M4 are 5,56mm.

"Assault rifles" is a category, which hasn't got anything to do with the length of the barrel or overall length of the weapon (that's what a carbine is, a shortened version). Therefore a carbine can be classed as an assault rifle.
