Using Military Tatics in Battlefield 2

Here's a few tricks I learned from looking up military tatics.

    1. Before you go into a building, chuck a grenade into it.

This one works well all over the place, usally you waste a grenade, but sometimes...

    2. You are a stupid twit with no brains.

No, I am not insulting you. Every smart and original idea you have come up with has been done over and over.

    3. Duck!!

When under fire duck. Duh!!! I don't know how many people have just stood still and fired at their target. All you need to do is duck wait for them to reload and then have at em.

Anyone have more ideas? Post'em now #*^^%$!

    haha!!! Well here's a few.

When in a forest type of map, Songhua Stalmate for instance, use your the Wedge...

The Wedge: Basically you have your squad, typically an odd number, works better this way. Have your team form a V like shape. Walk along an area in this V formation until you encounter enemy fire. As this happens go prone!!! You, the squadleader directs fire toawrds the target(s). Have member move ahead a few feet after a certain matter of time. Like this...

    A B C(Squadleader) D E

    ^ ^ ^
    ^ ^ ^
    ^ ^ ^
    A B C D E

After these guys advance have B and D reload, fire, then they advance. Like this

    ^ ^
    ^ ^
    ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
    A B C D E

Repeat this process until you kill your target(s)

However, should you be flanked do this, have A, B, D, and E watch the flanks. Have A and E be the ones looking out for the flanks, while B and D give support should you encounter an overwhelming force of hostiles...

    ^ ^ ^
    ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
    ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
    A B C D E

I think you can see how this can be a very formidable formation in combat. Because if you perfect it and have your squadmembers follow the Squadleader's commands you should be able to stop any foe, regardless if it's a tank, APC, or a hostile on a mounted LMG.

This is an actual combat manuever used by real Infantryman on real battlefields. So don't argue that it's bad, because if it was then obviously people wouldn't be using it to defend theirlives...

Bah!!!! it messed up my arrows...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

      I found a cool link http://www.gutenberg.org/files/10908/10908-8.txt

Most of it doesnt apply to BF2 but the section on squad tatics and abriviations gave me some new ideas.

      NEW!!!!!

      4. If your clumped together you can support your teamates the best. If your spread out you can't all die at once.

Explosives such as C4 will work havok with a clumped squad. While a spread out squad cannot help eachother as effectively.

(Justin try puting your diagram on paint or something)

Use VOIP to establish and maintain fields of fire that just barely overlap. Blackhawk teams that do this are the ones that have scores in the tripple digits, but it works very well with armor and on foot. Use the spotting feature built into the game to light up the mini-map but also use VOIP to identify targets (like directing your squad's marksman to another sniper or letting your engineer know enemy armor is inbound so setup mines).

TALK to your team. Shoot, move, and COMMUNICATE.

could you eloaborate on what fields of fire are?

          5. Use pickets while defending a flag.

All of you know where babies come from. Then where do tanks come from? Why does a enemy tank suddenly appear near your CP without warning? All you need to do is put one of your squad in front of the CP to warn you. Better yet have the squad member be a Special Ops and C4 the main road.

          If you know stuff. Post-It!

Re: Using Military Tatics in Battlefield 2

Using gun implacements in sink with a squad can be one of the most effective strategies. I know it's common sense that a M249 LMG + 5 Squad Members = Mayhem...but you'd be surprised how inefficient people use this.

A mounted gun with infinite to near-infinte ammo is your bestfriend. Use with a few other people and you have one hell of a destructive force. Having people guard your flank and watch out for tanks, like spot them so you can take cover or the perosn on the LMG can take cover, then you can really hold a control point, and ultimately cause the win.

For instance, if you can hold the control point that is closest to the American side, assuming you are MEC, then all your guys can constantly spawn here and just keep on atacking. So it's easy to see how by holding a control point with a few guys on some LMGs, rocket launchers, can be very effective.

***EDIT*** The control point I am referring to is Karkahd or however you spell it...

              APC swarm
              1. Get a few engys, support, and medics
2.Get 3 APCs together and attack any target from diffrent dirctions.
3.Gather at one point in the middle and repair and resuply each other.
              4. Wreak havoc

Re: Using Military Tatics in Battlefield 2

A "Field of Fire" is basically an area of responsibility for an individual soldier. Basically, take the 360 degrees of a circle and cut it into pie slices then divide those slices up among the squad members. Using VOIP this is easy to do and can multiply and magnify a squad's capabilities. Since Patch 1.03 is out now, even a full blackhawk only counts as ONE person near a flag so it's an appropriate time to talk about a change in tactics.

Fields of Fire and 1.03 Blackhawk flag capping: T_M's suggestion

1)Blackhawk flies in and performs a low orbit of the flag. Inside doorgunner clears the flag area while outside doorgunner cleans up incoming/outgoing enemy and reports any inbound threats (mobile AA, Armor, or Enemy Helicopter).

2)Blackhawk makes final approach and comes to low hover over the flag while four teammembers deploy taking up positions at 12, 3, 6, and 9 O'clock relative to the chopper/flag. Each soldier will be responsible for a 90 degree field of fire (which is huge, I wish you could have more than 6 in a squad). The four on the ground spot and engage any enemy in their field of fire to hold their position, trusting his squadmates to cover his back and sides (by maintaining their own field of fire).

3)Blackhawk pilot immediately takes off (reducing it's vulnerabilty) and performs low orbits again, with the remaining squad member on the outside doorgun to spot inbounds and provide supressive fire cover for the ground squad.

4)Once the flag is capped, the helo swoops down and the ground team is recovered. Blackhawk pilot then leaves moves to the next objective (like a bat out of !@#$).

As far as kit loadout, I'd recommend the following:
                Pilot: Medic (and Squadleader)
Outside gunner: Engineer (so he can jump in the back to repair while ground team is deployed if need be)
Inside Gunner: Medic (to increase recovery in helo and patch up ground team if things get hot while deployed)
Three Rear Slots: 2 Spec Ops (to bomb C4 from Helo and have a good rifle for defense once deployed), 1 Support (to resupply C4 in helo and keep deployed team ammo'd up). 1 Spec Ops could be an Engineer instead if he is really good with his pistol, otherwise the shotgun will be mostly useless on the ground and create a 90 degree weak spot in the Squad's defense. However, he could actively repair the Helo while aboard and leave mines at every flag taken (with Support resupplying) to prevent enemy flag caps.

Opinions will differ dramatically on this strategy and loadout, this is just my opinion of a flag capture in the new 1.03 environment to illustrate how Fields of Fire can work.

                  Convoys

My personnal opinion is that a light scout goes first with a AT in it followed by a tank at more than 20m then a fully loaded apc.(again 20 m back.) What about u guys?

Re: Using Military Tatics in Battlefield 2

Two military-type things I remember from paintballing back when I was fit and vaguely active.

                    6P Rule
                    Proper Planning Prevents P***-Poor Performance
Quite simple really, don't go charging in guns blazing unless you're looking to collect a purple heart and enjoy watching the spawn counter tick down. If you're in a squad, look to how the squad is composed before attacking a position. If you've got half-a-dozen engineers with pump-action shotguns then a rapid-fire storm of a defended command post is probably not a brilliant idea.

                    KISS
                    or
                    Keep It Simple, Stupid
Once you've decided to work to a plan, don't overcomplicate it. Chances are that something is going to happen, someone's going to get shot or be unable to reach their objective so keep any plans simple and straightforward and be prepared to improvise.

I know that both these points fall into the "teaching grandma to suck sailors" category for most gamers but considering the game is squad based, it's a shame more people can't play with proper squad tactics instead of seeing a squad as 6 guns firing at the same target.

Re: Using Military Tatics in Battlefield 2

The convoy system is probably the most effective strategy I have found in Battlefield 2. Playing a match on kubra where our squad started out with the mobile aa and an apc. Filled the mobile aa and apc all with engies and went to the nearest cp. Once there, aa went in and got damaged a bit, so it backed up near the apc healed, while multiple opfor ran out trying to take out the disabled aa. Cleared the cp, hijacked the tank and apc, went onto next cp, hijacked tank there. In the end, we ended up with four tanks and one apc in the convey with another squad in 2 jeeps and 1 apc cruising around the map capping flags.

Just more explanation on the wedge:

This formation is the best for compromise in mobility and firepower. It is not the only valuable maneuver. Here are some more, with added explanation on the Wedge, with Line and Column.

                            Line

The line provides best forward firepower on a fixed position, and is great protection against grenades and artillery. However, it is poor on defense. Squad members are side by side, spaced 3-5 meters apart, with the squad leader not in the center, but towards the left or right edge, with support towards center and your pointmen on the outside

                            o O 0 0 0 o

                            o being your pointmen
                            O being your squad leader
0 being the rest of your team
(Please note the O and 0 are the letter and number respectively. You should be able to tell the difference.)

                            Column

The column formation is poor on assault, but it is good for moving forward under cover and/or concealment. Good firepower to the sides, low visibility. Use this only when you dont expect an ambush or enemy contact. Point man is in front, with the squad leader behind, and support behind Sqd Ldr and the rest following him.

                            Wedge

The wedge, as mentioned above, is a compromise between mobility, defense, and firepower. When in doubt, use this formation. Spread your men out so a grenade will not be effective. Your point man is in front. To one side, is your Sqd Ldr, to the other side of the PM is a rifleman (this should be either a SpecOps Assault, or Medic). Off to the side of the Sqd Ldr will be your Support man. If you use 6 people, extend the wedge on either side of your PM, but make sure that one side has one more than the other, and the last person is the Support. Use common sense. Put your Support on the side you expect resistance.
The reason the Wedge is good is, you have good firepower in a 180 degree arc. All men can fire forwards, and there's always half of your squad that can fire directly to the side.

                            More notes:
When encountering the enemy, do NOT break formation. Find cover and have Support provide suppressing fire. If you are out in the open, spread out. If you are in a city, spread out but dont scatter, and seek cover.
Dont rush off to find the enemy when engaged. This will lead to a quick slaughter of your squad. Stop, find cover, and assess the situation. Always send your point man out first. Keep your medic with you Sqd Ldr and your support as well. Key is, keep your Sqd Ldr alive. If he's the last one alive, you still have a chance to spawn back in on him. If he's the first to die, even if you win the fight, you will be without a mobile spawn point until your Sqd Ldr returns.
If in case your Sqd Ldr dies and he cannot be revived, stay put. The leading cause of battles being lost in Battlefield 2 (with my information, not some fancy survey, so take this with a grain of salt if you want to) is that people rush a flag, die, and leave no opposition to the enemy to move forward and claim ground. Stay put, and keep them from advancing, until you are in a position to push them back.

Snipers: Move in squads of two. Support and Sniper. Since your support is not camouflaged, have him close by but seek shelter. Avoid skylining, and take your time with your shots, go for the sure kill. If you hit but fail to kill, you have provided the enemy with an invaluable tool to find your location. They may not have seen you, but they know which direction you fired from, and it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out where the best spots for a sniper are. Your goal is also not to rack up kills. This is just a bonus. Your job instead is to support your team, and provide intel. Your key assets are your ability to stay hidden and observe without being observed. Spot those tanks, troops, any enemy to give other squads an idea of where to assault. In essence, you are your team's eyes. And pick good targets. Shoot any person you suspect of being a squad leader, on a machine gun, medics, and when not given any other targets of opportunity, other snipers. It's tempting to hunt snipers, but unless they are causing your team a major headache, it's better to kill squad leaders and machine gunners first.

                            Support:
Your key asset is firepower. But killing isnt your best tool. You have a lot of rounds to expend, and nobody wants to run into a wall of fire, so keep people's heads down. Fire in bursts to conserve ammo, short enough to where your weapon doesnt overheat, but long enough so the enemy is not inclined to inspect the serial number on the upper reciever. If you are low on ammo and need to reload, TELL YOUR SQUAD LEADER. This is not only the most vulnerable moment for you, but also your squad. Have them take up the slack until you can fire again. Take a split second to drop an ammo pack so you can rearm while reloading.

One final tip, for support and medics:
Do NOT drop kits unless required. The ammo kit and medic kit are like beacons for the enemy. The icon will show up through walls and shrub a significant distance away, giving away positions of snipers and your squad. Unless ammo/health is required immediately, just hold it out and slowly give it to them.
