Problem Solved! Texture Issues Are Gone!!! How Happy Am I!!!

The problem:- motherboard (or at least drivers). Changed motherboard to a Asus K8N-E Deluxe (with nVidia chipset) and everything is now superb. PLaying the game with everything set to High (except dynamic shadows/lighting: Medium) at 1280x1024. Lovely.

Wouldn't recommend the Asus board though... the AMI BIOS is a complete joke and the bundled software a complete pile of cack.

But it do's for now!

Congratz !! I though you would have given up by now ;-). Hope you enjoy the game after all this. At least it produced a cool avatar.

What was you original mother board + drivers? Maybe helpful for other people.

Thanks, and sorry, yeah, good point... should have mentioned old setup.

Motherboard was a foxconn K8S755A-6EKRS. Great board, tons of features, not bad BIOS, just an awful (in my opinion) SiS755 chipset. After re-installing the machine from scratch, with the foxconn in, the problem was 10 times worse. Think I mentioned it in this thread somewhere. Took me a while to realise that I had not installed the 1.17e GART drivers from the motherboard disk. Installed those and the black texture issues almost disappeared. A definate improvement but not perfect.
So, decided to install latest GART drivers from SiS website (1.21 I think). Problems went back to being as bad as they were prior to 1.17e. Therefore lost my rag and decided to get shot of the motherboard. And I'm glad I have. AGP Aperture size now back down to 128MB in BIOS, almost everything running on high. Well pleased.

Not sure if it's just a problem with my 6800GT card and that chipset... unfortunately my Radeon 9800 PRO didn't last long enough with BF2 pumping through it to get a good idea. But my advice, for what it's worth, steer clear of SiS chipsets if at all possible.

woot woot and the cherry on the cake, now the game won't lauch at all did my graphics card implode or is bf2 eating itself?

Have you done the PunkBuster update yet? Seriously...PunkBuster can cause ALL SORTS of problems (usually not textures though).
