Re: Texture issues on 6800 GT

Just upgraded to 2G of RAM, and installed a new X-fi.
    I have a P4 3.2, 6800GT, and run 1280x1024 all settings maxed, 2xAA, Sound Ultrahigh EAX on.
I am using the driver version 81.95. The card is overclocked to 420/1200 and runs on a watercooled system I must admit.
drawFps is displaying an avg. of 80-100 fps. Never drops below 65 since I got 2G of Corsair TwinX DDR400 memory running dual-channel.

don't know about the 6800GT being a mid-range card. I believe it's still the "get the most bang for your your bucks" card available.

Re: Texture issues on 6800 GT

I may have sorted the problem by installing another 1GB of RAM. Only problem I have now is that it's clocked all DIMMs down to 200MHz (as I've now used all three slots - weird mobo). I've test on the map that gave me most hassle (Daqing Oilfields) and so far so good. The proof will be in the playing I think; when I get a chance.
For interest, this is the sort of issues I was getting:-

(screen008 is actually view of helicopter TV cam missiles, but some reason also has leaves in it!). Never got around to getting a picture of the black shapes appearing everywhere, but you see the thing about the missing vehicles.

I'd never be able to get my settings to max. There are generally all medium and lows. 2x AA. Maybe I need to look into overclocking.

Gets stranger. I've noticed that if I ctrl-esc out of BF2 back to XP, and then back into BF2 - the problem disappears and all is back to normal - for a few minutes at least. very strange.

upgrading to 81.98 drivers seems to have little / no difference, nor did up'ing the memory to 2GB.

I've now also overclocked the adapter but still seem a fair way from being able to max everything out.

Hi did you check the temperature of your graphics card?

If you ctrl-esc to the desktop to gfx card cools down because the 3D part is not used. After going back into the game it heats up again.

im running a 6800 GS, 512mb of ram, and 3200 amd athlon. i have some of your problems like ground blackouts but mine isnt that bad, i was just thinking more ram would fix MY issues but usually when my ground blacks out im in a fast moving vehicle and eventually goes away, if it doesnt i just relog back into game and it fixes

Prior to overclocking, the card run at a steady 56-58 degrees... whether after 10 minutes or 3 hours of BF2. Since overclocking I've seen it creep up towards the 62 - but nothing higher than that as far as I know.
That sound about ok? Not too high is it?

Re: Texture issues on 6800 GT

My problems dont seem to go away, but get progressively worse. It is more apparent when using fast vehicles covering lots of terrain, or switching between commander screen and back to game play seems to aggrevate it too.
The only way it seems to go for sure is to play a smaller map (not Daqing), switching back to windows and back again (for temporary solution), or by reloading the game.

Missing grass textures I can cope with, but most annoying issue is when vehicles start disappearing and I start seeing people flying around mid-air (as avatar shows).

I've a "decent" graphics card, an ok processor (amd64 3400+), plenty of RAM, a pretty fast HDD, a very lean "tweaked" XP install, and still having problems. Not sure what to do next. Thinking maybe the mobo needs changing, as it was a pretty early socket 754.

                    thanks,

I recomend better cooling for the 6800GT. Look up the NV Silencer5 kit its only $32.00 and it brought my temps down to 43C at idle. Lower temps help preformance. 62C is getting HOT!

Re: Texture issues on 6800 GT

                        Ambient temp 31C
                        GPU core 42C@ idle
You must consider the Ambient temp for your results.

Thanks. I'll look into cooling then maybe. Is there a minimum temp at which the cards performs to it's best? i.e. does it affect performance too run it too cool?

                          thanks

Re: Texture issues on 6800 GT

Don't know if I did a PM by accident, but message does not show up. So here it is again.

I have a 6600GT, running fine, and it idles at 63 and after I alt-esc out of bf2 it is about 76. It's passively cooled and inside a small shuttle box, so the temps are relatively high. Point is, at these temps it is still stable, so I doubt whether your problems are caused by heat.

Maybe it's a memory issue, textures take up a lot of memory and if a driver can't allocate it, it may use a single colour. Did you try a memtest on your DDR ram ? I don't know if there is such a thing as a memtest for onboard gfx memory, might be worth googling for it.

I did not see it said BUT did you delete the BF2 video cache files after you installed new card if not delete them and let the game reoptimize the shaders and such.

I have a eVGA 6800GT 256 & run all high, no ingame AA, x2Q AA card forced, 1024x768.
I have 2Gig memory & Win XP 64 and average 60-80 FPS with dips to 40 when its real buisy & artillary is go'n off.
