Your problem is 100% the amount of RAM you have. I had a gig (same card) and couldn't run textures on high. Have 2 gigs now and EVERYTHING is on high. Saw several writeups online that say 1 gig isn't enough for textures set to high.

Well, am I ever pi55ed off now!

Just bought and installed a 5NV silencer cooler for the card. Everything temperature wise seems alot better... adapter is, at this exact moment, at 39 degrees, ambient 37 degrees.

After 5 minutes of BF2 it doesn't get above 50. However, during those five minutes the graphics have definately got worse!

So, I cool the adapter down by a good 10 degrees, it gets worse...

Plus, to add insult, I've probably invalidated my warranty on the card by pulling the stock fan/heatsink off. I am really starting to get f*cked off with BF2 and this bloody 6800GT adapter.

Small comfort however is that maybe *at last* I'm on the right lines with temperature. Its the only thing thats changed in my machine since this morning and things have been made worse.

I don't think you can blame it on the 6800GT. I have this GPU, and BF2 runs smooth as butter.
Are you sure that you didn't apply too much thermal paste onto the GPU when installing your new heatsink?

I have almost identical problems as b6x does.

Im running a AMD 3000+, 2.2 ghz
XFX 6800gt
1024 ram.

what happenes for me is i will play for about 10 minutes without trouble, and lagg will start to set in.
with in minutes the lagg is so bad I can't play, and then the ground will turn black or vehicle textures will disapear.

none of my other games have this problem, or any problem at all.

this thread has been dead for a while and if anyone has any advice at all it would be very helpfull.

did you ever fix your game b6x? anyone with this same problem?

What are your GPU temps while you're playing?

Leave your Nvidia GPU monitor running before you play BF2...play BF2 until the problems start, then alt-tab out and check the temp.

Either that or use an app like SpeedFan and have it graph your temps for you while you're playing (bit tough to set up).

Right-click anywhere on your desktop, click 'nVidia Display' and click on the monitor entry that appears (e.g. Samsung Syncmaster).

Then click on the 'Temperature Settings' item in the left panel.

If you do not see any of this..you may want to update your video drivers.

began playing at 4:53

game ran ok but i had settings to high so (everything max) lowerd terrain to the low setting, effects to medium, lighting to medium,

joined a new server no lag, but at 5:30 massive lagg came in.

my ping shot up, which is normal for when this happenes, but the ground never dissapeared this time.

i dont kno whats up but i feel that i dont wanna waste any time at all on bf2 its not worth it IMO

oh ya and the temperatures when lag came in were 72 gpu i forget the ambient i think it was 50 or 40

good bye BF2! i hope i can sell u off for at least 20 bucks
ill be playing the origional BF and DC its much more fun than bf2, even when bf2 is working.

HECK YES! i love bf2!!

i typed renderer.drawfps 1 in console and the screen flashed black a few times then the ground dissapeared!!!

so i typed renderer.drawfps 0 in console and it crashed to desktop!!

heres to a hopeless game.!
