Why dosn't some one rig that yet. We have this hole move your head thing. Ever been to disney quest they already have this. Works really well to :)
Re: TrackIR Video in BF2: Almost virtual reality with BF2!
I have my controller set to view like that already. No need to spend $100 on something unless your know how to set your controller up. To say almost virtual reality is insane
Your controller has a number of drawbacks in comparison:
Your joystick hat moves at a maximum defined speed, meaning I can look to the very far left as fast as I could take a peek just to the left, whereas you have to hold mouselook for much longer. You're screwed for dogfighting.
With the hat, you never get confused about the orientation of the view. You know where you moved your head, whereas with the stick, you're unable to tell "Was that 15 degrees up, or 45?"
Opens the hat up for other assignments
I was one of the first BF1942 folks to have this setup on my joystick, this is 100X faster than that, and faster is what its all about up there.
HAHAHAHA trackir isnt that good! if anything the only thing it is good at is giving u sore eyes and a saw neck...
Apparently, you didn't set your sensitivities. Its true its a pain in the ass, but the payoff is huge. I move my head three inces in any direction, and thats 100% turned. I move more when I'm smoking a cigarette and playing.
But seeing as how you have to HOLD DOWN a freaking button to pan your view and you cannot use your weapons while panning, this certainly is NOT the best application.
It's a FAR better application than being unable to pan at all, isn't it? Sure TrackIR is cleaner and more functional in MS Flight Sim '04 or Lomac, but the alternatives to it are:
1-Use your juryrigged slow-ass joystick hat to pan (or)
2-Choose to fly without panning at all (or)
3-Actually using the mouse(ick)
Using the mouse is 100X more effective than using nothing, but using a joystick hat switch is 100X more effective than the mouse. The TRACKIR is 100X more effective than the hat switch.
Anyways, regarding the inability to fire or manuever while you're holding it down, thats the point of why TrackIR is so awesome. It takes me a tenth of a second to glance up to see if that jet is still turning that way, but with ANY other method, that jet has beaten your turn before you can spot him.
I can't see how this is very realistic, since the monitor doesn't move with your head and you have to keep your eyes fixed on the monitor as you turn your head. Ouch. Damn eye strain.
Is it more or less realistic than not panning at all, using the mouse, or even jury-rigging your joystick hat? I assert it is far more realistic to move your head left and have your game look left than when you hold down your left hat button and it pans left. Much more realistic, and much faster too.
Re: eye strain-You set it up so its a few inches you move, and that pans you all the way to the edge.
Look at your screen right here, and then point your nose toward the edge of your monitor. Thats how far I have to move to pan to about the edge of the pannable distance.
Oak's kind of a nut. He thinks it helps him, but all i ever see is him plowing into the mountains.
I'm a macadamiea, and the trees and spans claim my life way more often than any mountain. :P
