I wasn't satisfied with the performance of my old system, so I upgraded to a 64-bit solution.

$125 - MX-518 + Icemat
$340 - 2 GB Corsair Value S PC3200
$250 - AMD64 3200+
$280 - DFI LanParty SLI-DR motherboard
$560 - XFX nVidia 7800GT 256MB

= $1555, just for BF2.

Went from 800x600 with everything on low without AA/AF, to 1280x960, everything on High and 8xAA and 8xAF :)

Its getting to the point where you have to upgrade to keep up with games. I hope mine will last me a few years, but who knows.

im glad i have a p4 machine as far as the ram goes because it seems very rare too get more than 3 ram slots on AMD boards but most decent P4 boards have 4 meaning 4 x 512mb corsair ram (2 x matched pairs) is possible :)

40ish quid on an extra 512 RAM and now looking at spending another 250-300 on a 3700+ San Diego ,new mobo and another 512 to make the full 2gb

Well I had a POS computer that couldn't run any game very well at all really.

So I spent like 1k+ for a new machine.

Its getting to the point where you have to upgrade to keep up with games. I hope mine will last me a few years, but who knows.

In the past the 2nd to the fastest processor at the date of sale and the best video card would get you just about 2 - 2 1/2 years of gaming use. You could eek out maybe another 6months to a year settling for low graphics settings and the like in games.

The price point of gaming monster type computers were much more expensive then they are now too. You'd pay maybe 3 or 4 grand for a tricked out system. Nowadays you can get away with paying much, much less and still do just fine. Were you to pay that much for a computer built from the ground up for gaming now, it would be something that would last a long time. I'm talking fastest processor, SLI 7800GTX video, Xi Fi sound, etc.

Now onto how much I spent on BF2. $129.00 on a 256mb video card, my old video card was a 64MB one. I have an old system, but I needed the card to play bf2 and other upcoming games. I didn't want to spend much more than 100+. At this very moment you're going to need a video card with at least 128mb to play fps's.

Future: I plan on getting a Logitech G5 Mouse, func Ind. mouse pad, and maybe a nostromo n52. Not just for BF2 but for general fps gaming. This excludes the new system I'll be building soon, which is just an upgrading to a faster machine (not really game related).

Like a few have said in the forums, it's best not to upgrade computer parts other than memory for a game. Best to save that for the future.

That's one thing that sucks about PC gaming, you always have to upgrade if you want the best graphics and sound. There is no one game that plays the same on all systems type affair like there is with consoles (ie the same game one one system will play the same on any system).

About 300 euro's, not just for BF2, but it was a deciding factor.
