But many people neither have the knowledge to do so, or the expertise to fix things/track down problems if they go wrong in the construction process.

They let you order all the parts and if you order certain parts then you get a reduction on the labor cost to build it. I got mine built free cause i got certain parts. i got mine for 900 and it has:
2 gigs of ram
pentium 4 3 ghz
nvidia 7200
and a crap load of more stuff

dual core 2.8, 1 gig 4200 dual channel, 250 gig 7200 rpm, 800 bucks, add a ati x800 xt pci-express for about 200, you'll be set. and if you want, u can add some pretty lights and stuff.

Now don't kill me guys, whether you like my advice or not, but even though i build all my computers myself, I have to say that for those that don't know what the hell actually goes on inside their machines, Dell isn't really that bad an option.

Dell's pricing is quite ok, their components are usually good, they ship quickly and reliably and their customer service isn't too bad either. So, besides the ****ty plastic cases, Dell's can actually be a good choice for nweb computer users, imo.

Dont buy alienware. Your just paying for the name. You can build one with the same hardware in an alienware much cheaper. There crap.

I know Scan.co.uk has already been mentioned, but note they also pre-overclock every aspect of your machine too. You not only get the bits bit they go faster!

Do not go with alienware, they ask way to much for what they put in the box, and in my opinion the cases are butt ugly.

www.dougfunnie.com has some great PC deals. You can rder allm your parts there and either have them assemble it and ship it, or they send you one nice big package with all the parts

I hope people have the brains to compeletly ingore any advice you offer!

If you need help buiding your PC there are books out there that walk you through the process. Or you can find someone that has built one and ask for there help. Building your own is the best way to go. But if that is not an option also look at www.voodoopc.com.
