I play engi alot. would play it even more if there were not so many TK penalty hazzards from blind & dumb team mates. :hmm:

I play engineer all the time & I'm always nearby any mines that I've laid. If I see a teammate heading towards one, I make every effort to stop them in time.
You're wasting your time if you babysit your mines. Instead of holding your teammates' hand you can be helping your team by sabotaging the enemy and locking down any equipment they have in their base. The reason the skull and crossbones pops up is a Warning to anyone there -- however people don't stop when they see that and think 'Hey, there's a mine around here.' The crossbones SHOULD BE ENOUGH for most people to realize that there's danger nearby (whether anti-vehicle or anti-personnel).

Fair enough but just think about this. If an enemy is in the process of turning your base, are you going to give them access to equipment to kill your team? Skull and crossbones is not enough for most people -- there should be some icon on your minimap to indicate mine placement (for team only).

is the distance when the skull and crossbone show up a server setting? Because sometimes it seems like I can see the icon a mile away others I have to be right on top of them before I get the warning.

I enjoy the Engineer gun especially for the USMC -- Once you learn how to aim that gun becomes the 'no-aim' weapon as you can easily take out people close-quarters with it using HS bursts & strafing. For those people who only know 'spray & pray' this gun obviously would not be effective (and you shouldn't need to put yourself in the position where you would try to out snipe an enemy using this).

I don't think they would as its npt like the engineer has any great assets, they only time i use it is if i'm going in a tank or apc, at the start of karkand if i'm on the mec team and in the black hawk

I think mines should be like 1942 style. If you drive over them slowly and are going straight then they dont go off. Though this works for both the enemy and friendly, as friendly get a giant icon and smart engineers will disguise their mines it still should be effective.

anyone who runs into a claymore or mine should let the eng have an option of punishing since they took away his damn mine, its just retarded but engs suck anyway. Freaking shotgun phhf

Maybe mines should just destroy vehicles and not kill all the occupants. Take it down to the red zone so they have a few seconds to get out before it blows. Maybe the troops inside lose 50% health but not all.

Eng should get points for taking out the vehicle.

Realistically a mine would blow the tracks off a tank but it wouldn't necessarily disintegrate the thing, the same with APCs.

It could be a good ambush tactic, lay some mines to disable an APC and then pick off all the troops that come running out of it before it "blows". If it's a friendly then they will be annoyed at losing their wheels but since nobody died there is no tk.

I play Engi a lot but don't place as many mines as I'd like to or should. Some maps really benefit from the mines but you almost always end up with minus points. I tend to just run up to unsuspecting tanks and throw a mine on top or place it underneath, then run away and wait for them to start rolling...

EA definitely should make something better for TK with land mines. Engineer is quite a nice kit to play but number of team mates running over your mines is dangerously high. I always place mines in such order to leave enough space for our vehicles to pass but no help. Having no TK for land mines is not good but we should share TK points (-2 and -2) - and no punish option.

And for weapon - Pump-Action shot guns are really good for close combat. Very often one hit is enough to take down enemy. MEC Semi-Auto sucks a bit.

I wouldnt like too see EA change it so that the mines didnt go off on friendlies, i think that they should just make and insentive for people to be more carefull when driving. For example, the eng should get the TK of the driver, but the driver should get the TK's of all the passengers, that way drivers would be really carfull when driving, especially if they had a full humvee. Otherwise its their points that will be reduced if they hit a mine. This takes some strain off the eng, so they dont get such bad scores, but still makes them be carefull where they put them and will make drivers be far more carefull when they are transporting people around the map, unless they want alot of TK's against them.

Ok i'm currently 9'527 global placed engineer (just checked).

Yes we would be plagued by engineers if they do ever make AT mines "team friendly".
Why should they change it ? Its perfect how it is.

I laugh when i see engineers placing 2 AT mines next to each other, 1 in each track on the road. Why ?...When 1 will do the job on any vehicle in the game. Puzzles me that one.

Also engineers who leave unattended AT mines ALL the time.
Iadmit i do leave the odd one lieing around, but its always a tactical decision and done with thoughts for other teamates coming first.

                          Engineer tip of the day.....

The under side of an AT mine is a lighter shade of grey than the top.
                          Say no more

LEAVE ENGINEERS ALONE IN THE NEW PATCH !!

Its an art to be learned.

I always place only one mine normally, it is enough to blow an enemy vehicle whilst leaving plenty of room for friendlies. I hate it when idiot engineers place a row of mines completely filling a gap, and I'm sure I annoy them when I get out of my vehicle with my spanner and proceed to remove most of them!

I would certainly play engineer more if that were the case...but I don't think that is ever going to happen
