Yes it is a common problem, there were 2 people on a server I was playing on yesterday where this happened for 3 maps in succession.
They were high ranked though and were doing a great job with the AH-1Z so I did not complain but I agree it does hurt those that have yet to try out these vehicles.
I'm not really a flying person so I personally am not too bothered, now I havemy basic heli badge I doubt I'll waste time waiting for one to spawn unless it sits there empty.

hmm, i've never thought about that before but i now think that would be a good idea to limit the number of times a person could fly each round. Maybe 3 times would be good as it would cut down on the suicide pilots, but then again, what if nobody else wants to fly in that round? Your jet would just be sitting for the enemy to swipe. I can see pro's and con's to this idea.

Life isn't fair.

This sort of thing happens a lot but it's not on every server. There's plenty of servers without queues for planes.
It's not always a bad thing though - as DP said most people who wait for the planes and helis to respawn do a good job.
Also bear in mind if you do suck and crash/bail out of planes/helis people will get mad at you.

an easy fix would be to lengthen the time the between the crash and when jets and helis spawn. that way the "pilot" will ...
1. sit there and wait for the jet giving others a chance to wait with him, and lower his score as hes spending more time waiting then flying.

2. he'll run off in favor of killing people on the ground over waiting, allowing the next random person a chance to jump in the jet.

or

create maps with 2 or more runways per one jet. the jet randomly spawns between them. this gives the last pilot a 50% chance to get the jet again.

If you get it , you get it, if you are a good pilot, then why not, but taking turns can never hurt.

and i guess this concerns me cause in oman the only thing i do is flying a plane whenever i got the chance...last day i did 2 complete round without dying a single time and i did my best kill streak of 58 that day. i guess you where part of the round simon73? how do u want me to let other people let the chance to fly my plane??? crash it for you? not a chance.

hum if i dont abuse myself is it 45sec the respawn time of a jet? and 30 a heli? this is more than enough to get on time the place of someone who really want the plane or chopper.
plus, just remember by heart the spawning point of a jet or chopper to be sure to get a place.

Single player, folks. Plenty of opportunity there to hone up on your flying skills, which is where you should be "practicing" your flight anyway. If, that is, you can beat the bots to them

We are not talking about practising, we are talking about those who have practised already and want to put those skills to the test in live mp combat.
I agree that SP is the place that people should be learning to control these craft however.

Also I have notice that some people use the plane to gain more points kills this is hardly hard may be they should only use the plane a maximum 2 or 3 times giving others members online a chance to have a go.

The thing is when you do finally gety a decent go in the chopper or jet wouldn't it be nice for you if when you crash it you can come back and have another go and probably end up having a whole match having a decent practise? I think so.

A partial solution would be to trey and toss a little realism in to bf2 similar toi the sysstem they have in americas army. If you want to be a medic for instance then you have to pass your medic training and exam, if you want too sniper you have to be a qualified sharp shooter and if you want too drive a tanl/apc then you need to pass your tannk driver training.

well thats the problem... either your the type that feels once your in the jet or heli, you should have the oportunity to use it till you decide to give it up...
or
your the type that feels once you screw up and get your ass killed or crashed, your done, and its someone elses turn.

im a little bit of both. i think the way it is now is totally in favor of the dude who was just in the jet.. to be able to retake it. usually its a 15 second respawn for you, and then (assuming jets are 45sec) 30 seconds after that for the jet. for the rescently fallen, you know where itll spawn, and how soon. since most the respawn areas for the jets are closer if not on a CP... you got np getting there before the 30sec is up.

if your not the dude that just crashed and burned, your chances are somewhat diminished, unless your just sittin there waiting for a jet to crash, watched the map for the plane blip to vanish, or you got lucky and happened to run past it.

i think expanding the spawn time of the jets would be an acceptable comprimise. giving those who have already spawned enough time to realize the plane is down, and get to the spawn point. then its just a matter of gettin in ... and hopin those around you dont launch a rocket or grenade at you while your taking off... (an unfortunate side effect of petty ****ers that cant deal with loosing the jet)

As always this type of topic has got people talking and offering their own thoughts about this problem. I agree with DP and the rest of the members opinions and yes I do play the single player missions and even resorting (sad as I am) to set up my own server playing by myself flying around which is good way to get flying hours in.

However, keep your comment coming and your thoughts about the question I have raised. someone said he like playing as a ground troop I agree and some else raised the question about limited use of flying to 3 if no one wants to fly in your team very good question, never thought of that one lol.
