    Chopper - heavier?

Hi guys, my mate and i are REALLY bored at work and were just discussing some silly BF2 stuff - basically we wanted to know if a Chopper is heavier with passenger sin it? (within BF2 that is - not real life!!!!) This may sound like a silly question but my mate reckons there are some tunts he could do without passengers that he cant when fully loaded!!

    Re: Chopper - heavier?

Funny, someone said to me over VoIP the other night they thought the Humvee's don't accelerate (or climb hills) as well when they are loaded up with passengers. I figured it's probably just imagination, since they accelerate so badly anyway!

One of those crazy modder/reverse engineers that hang around here will need to take a look at the code to find out definitivly.

Well it could just be imagination then but a few other poeple have now agreed!! Im not totally convinced myself but it would be pretty impressive programming if it were true! CAn someone find out?

Interesting. Best way to test it is to setup jeeps side by side. Load one up and the other just has the driver and then see if one accelerates quicker and reaches a higher top speed.

Interesting....never really noticed, but that would be awsome if EA/DICE had actually done that....

Im gonna have to pay more attention next tiem I play

Which brings me to another question... does anyone ever hold buggy races? Which maps would be best? I would imagine Karkand would be a good one, but I don't believe it has buggies, does it? You could race from the US main to the MEC main.

We do lots of buggy racing and so far imo the best maps for it are Kubra Dam and FuShe Pass. Buggy chasing is also great fun. There two guys drive the FAV and two DPV's are chasing it and trying to shoot the FAV down while it's defending itself.

                Interesting question!
I had a hell of a time getting the BTR-90 up onto the top of the dam in Kubra Dam map when I was carrying 4 other people...

stay in 2feet-from-ground hovering and let 5people enter the BH...and im sure it wont lower itself cause of the weight. maybe in the patch...maybe never.

Maybe it does cause when you have a full load in a BH it seems to take off a little slower then just 1 or 2 people in it or maybe it's just me

                      Re: Chopper - heavier?

I just looked at the code.
I don't see anything that says vehicles get heavier the more people in them,
I did see that every item in bf2 has a mass. 10000 for helis, 5000-7000 for planes, light vehicles 1800-2500. Soldiers also have a mass of 100.

I have only taken a quick look but that does seem to say that soldiers would make vehicles heavier. Correct me if I'm wrong but mass is proportional to weight....

                        Re: Chopper - heavier?

I would tend to think this holds true. I don't notice in the attack choppers too much - but the difference in fully loaded BH is noticable - at least I think so.

Also, I have noticed that fully loaded hummers seem to act slower as well.

I do think there is validity to this, and would be interesting to test. GL doing it on a public server though.

                          Re: Chopper - heavier?

Well if squaddies weigh 100 each then that would perhaps explain the slower speeds when my APC is loaded up with 6 people.
                          Hmm...

                            Re: Chopper - heavier?

O.K now that other people have mentioned it i don't feel so silly I have thought the exact same thing on several occasions but always put it down to my imagination as it sounded so unlikely and could never really be sure if it was just coincidental.

The choppers seem to take off quicker when empty (only pilot) i have noticed it more with the BH but on kubra damn with the lumbering beast of MEC chooper on the top platform try it on your own and it seems really lively taking off.

The other time i noticed a big difference was trying to get a almost full APC up a hill in dragon valley, we were all on VOIP and about halfway up it got so frustrating swopping between 1st and 2nd gear at 2mph and just said in frustration "screw it lets get out and walk" as i was driving they all jumped out staright away and suddenly i seemed to pick up speed and manage to maintain 2nd gear. It was still really slow of course but the difference seemed substantial, i put it down to coincidence at the time but seeing oither seem to be noticing similar things.....

I would like to know for sure now, it has made me reconsider all the times i had put any diffenence down to coincidence :)

If I as much as scratch the ground while flying, my plane explodes.
But I've seen planes land in so many strange ways, at the end of a map, without exploding. (however it has probably nothing to do with weight :P)
