Re: Jet Jockeys are taking over

Here's some things I would point out. A jet cannot capture a flag. A jet can not be effective unless your troops are clustering so that a bomb takes out five guys in an APC. A jet cannot effectively hurt you if you get under cover. There are ways to win even when a good pilot is unopposed by your pilots.

Take to the hills. Neutralize a flag - fan out, the jet is coming. He drops his load, come on back and finish the job. If he takes out only one infantry with each bomb, you're going to do better than if you're all riding in a lone APC across the desert like a damned fool.

Spot, spot, spot. The half second a teammate can gain by seeing the incoming jet is enough time to bail. You will also create a real possiblity for your trainee pilots to distract the guy and help rebalance the air war. Having the aircraft light up on radar is a big help.

I get as frustrated as anyone when I'm eating a 1000 lb bomb every 60 seconds. But the key is to recognize the situation and adapt to it. Many flags have bunkers, you've got a decent chance there. Use the cover.

I'm sure others have far better ideas on how to handle the situation than I do.

use the Cover? What Cover u mean? Some trees on Wake, a Cardbox on Dragon Valley or a bush at Zatar?

And yes, you can Takeover a Flag in a Jet, the X-35 JSF is a ASTOVL Vehicle, it can hover above a Flag to capture it.
And frustration is one of the major points why ppl stop playing games or play only some of the Maps, in this case the Maps without f***ing Planes.

Re: Jet Jockeys are taking over

My main concern about jets is, while pilots can get better at bombing, there's no way for the resistance to those pilots to get better. AA is luck, and there are almost no maps were you can stand in an area in which a jet can't bomb you.

Oh, and I think the first thing they should do is take away the repair pads for helis and jets. After that, I'm not if they need to do anything else.

And rarely is a jet the only thing to worry about on a map, the frustrating part is when you take care of all the other problems around a flag (tanks, helis, infantry) and suddenly you get bombed by the jet that you never had a chance against and then one enemy infantry takes the flag from you.

Re: Jet Jockeys are taking over

I was on Gulf of Oman a few nights ago. An enemy jet had 44 kills and 2 deaths. I had the best score on my team and managed to get a K/D>1, but it wasn't fun AT ALL. There were people on both teams bitching about the pilot the entire time, no one could do anything to stop him, and by the time the round was over half of the people had left. I seriously doubt I'll play that map again.

That type of scenario is just unhealthy for an online game. People that say, "Well, if your pilots were any good then there wouldn't be a problem" are missing the point. Every other position in the game, when targeted by an entire team, is not going to survive for long. That's not true for the jets.

An expert infantry player might be able to have a great round, but if a squad or two on the opposing team decides to constantly target him, he can easily be stopped. The same goes for a great tank driver or a great chopper pilot. The same is NOT true for the expert jet pilot; there's just no way to reliably stop him. That is the definition of an unfair imbalance.

Its pretty frustrating, thats why i tend to play on city map servers only. Pilots going 200 points and 8 deaths on a server with anything but newbie players is a clear sign something is wrong, but most of the flyboys cant see that, we are all noobs, and they arent.

Helicopter pilots i can respect, they have to dodge MG fire, AT misles, other helicopters and jets. Only thing jet pilots have to worry about is other planes, and the trees, and the TK'ers on the runway.

EA knows about our gripes about the AA, its upto them to fix it or not, if they dont, i think in a year or so most servers will be city maps only,or costom maps with the planes edited out serverside.

Re: Jet Jockeys are taking over

On all Jets maps - both teams have jets. So if you're getting bombed just have your pilot focus on keeping the enemy jet at bay. Remember this game is about teamwork. You don't have to be a great pilot to take the enemy jets attention away from bombing.

And everyone should learn how to fly. Just like real life, jets are going to rule the battlefield no matter what.

OK, back to my bombing run......

                  wtf are you talking about?

Jets do not rule the Battlefield, Tanks, APC's and Infantry Units rule the Battlefield and Jets are only for Reinforcement or to clean out a place before the ground Troops march in.

And hey, Battlefield 2 is to 90% a infantry based Game, no f***ing flight Sim....................

                      Dont complain about them.

In real life a jet would suck the life out of you fast. Just sitting in a camp not surrounded by any civilians will guarantee your going to be hit by a bomb or a missle.
that's ********... why should he have to learn how to fly! If that's your solution then everybody would just hang around the airstrip and the game will turn into BattleAir2 - bomb the suckers.

better AA, more possibilities, more tactics = better game. Not - "dude learn how to fly"

Re: Jet Jockeys are taking over

I have some maps which I like to play which have planes.

Daqing oilfields for instance, because there you have COVER to work with

Maps like Gulf of Oman and Operation CleanSweep are nothing but playgrounds for pilots.. us infantry are just there to cap flags (if we have a pilot) or die (a lot) if we don't..

I do not WANT to learn to fly.. if I wanted to learn how to fly I'd buy a totally different game centered on planes.

And what gets me the most is that when both teams have one good pilot, either one or the other is going to switch sides, so they can avoid having to fight off those pesky planes and can continue the slaughter..

I've learned to avoid those maps.. and untill things radically change I'm not going to play them again.

radical change: WORKING A.A and SHOULDER MOUNTED STINGERS!

and ffs if you (the programmers) can't get heat-seeking right, causing us to kill off what little airsupport we have instead of the enemy, why opt for heat-seeking in the first place?

I heard some genius say 'you don't have to get into tanks, you don't have to get into cars, blah blah blah..'

Well, genius, glad you're here to explain this to us.. I guess we all should go hide in some bunker so you can take us all out with one bomb, or have your ground buddys toss in a nade or something?

I assume you must be a flyboy.. a groundpounder would never make such a moronic statement..

Re: Jet Jockeys are taking over

lol some of these responces are funny, so I will just say my feelings on aircraft and leave it be. Jets suck, at least the bombers do. Why? because they have 5 1000 pound bombs that they can wreck havoc with on any infantry or tanks or whatever they want. Then to do it again, all they have to do is fly over their runway and magically they have 5 bombs again. I wouldn't mind the jets so much if they were limited to the fighter aircraft that have just the two bombs, because its harder to hit accuratly with them than the bombers. A solution I would love to see is having to actually land to get rearmed. No one likes this idea, but i think if you can fly the plane, you should be able to land it too. Personally, i don't play maps anymore where there is a bomber, and I usually avoid maps with jets. I sometimes play them...but not as much as maps with just choppers. Choppers are better, because you actually might have a chance in hell of throwing something at them and killing them compared to the super fast jet that you die from and never even knew was coming at you. The choppers I like, because it takes a lot of skill to fly them. I can fly circles in one around some pilots, but there are still others that wow me....or just are lucky lol. But that is my little peice...

Erm - talk to your pilot. Get in a squad and chat.

So what? This is a game, and not real life. Everyone is suppost to have fun, not just the 4 pilots on each team, but the other 60 infantrymen and drivers as well.
