    Af?

what does anistrophic filtering do, in games such as HL2, and its mods (CSS & DoD:S), if its what i think it is, it makes the textures look better, but how, like what looks better, more detailed or what?

It makes textures that are far away look much better. It doesnt effect textures that are close to you in any way.

You might see some image quality improvement on those games when you view objects at a distance (like looking down a road) but at the cost of performance the higher you go.

The performance hit is only small on higher cards so you should always enable it.
I run all my games at 8xAF

            Re: Af?

It clears up textures that are further away from you. Your card should be able to handle it, so go for it. In-game its called "Texture Filtering" just fyi.

well actually im talking about HL2 and CSS, i know about BF2, its on high, in css it was going around 30 fps, so i put my aa down to 4x from 8xS. its above 60 fps now.

AA is more demanding then AF. Generally you want to set AF to 2x your AA setting.
