Guys, what ssettings should i run on?

My comps is this:

Athlon 3800 X2
XFX 6800GT PCI-e 256
Audigy 2 ZS
1 gig low latency ram corsair

right now i have it on 1024x860 and with most on high except dynamic lights, shadows, and textures on medium. i think i get average about 60FPS. Think i should bump anything up?

Ok, you have reletively low fps for your comp, my comp is running settings maxed out on 1280x960, and 6xAA. Try putting everything to high except for dynamic stuff, then see how your fps is.

Try textures on high, that shouldnt hurt too much IME. My 5700 LE will take textures on high without it slowing down tooooo much [from 60 down to about 30 - still playable and looks way nicer] and your GPU is a damn site chunkier than my one so should be OK.

AFAIK its the dynamic lighting abd shadowing that kills framerates if everything else is OK - it has to drop shadows from multiple light sources that match the polygons on screen, which is pretty intensive.

Heres a thought - just experiment and see what works.

I find dynamic light on high and shadows on medium looks nice meself, but when I do that it drops to 4-6fps. And if an explosion goes off anywhere within a quarter mile I get sub 1fps till it goes away - check out the raw power of my GPU, eh?

Well, it's good, but i get 55 fps average with maxed out settings with my X800XL. And to the threadstarter, do you always play on 64 player servers?

64 player is the way forward IMO.

Your card is OC'd - you reckon that will make much of a difference?

Also, to the threadstarter, have you got the latest drivers for the card - and have you tried the drivers off the disc? I put the 77.77 [or whatever the latest one is] and my poor 5700 didnt like it at all - put teh ones on teh disc on and it was happy happy joy joy time again.

i have the most recent drivers and i usually play on 50 to 64 people servers. so any idea why my frames are so low then?

There is no way a 5700LE gives you 60Fps with everything on medium.

yes it does i have : AMD athlon 2800 xp+, 1gig of Infineon CL3 ram and the 5700 LE and i get 55 FPS with everything on med (except AA)

Lets not fight about something so trivial as game settings please.
Simply find the setitng that gives you the best performance/detail ratio and have fun.

Your imbalanced. You have a kickass processor that isn't making much of a difference over any AMD64 >3200, but at the same time you have only 1 gig of Ram. My specs below get me between a low of 40 and high of ~90fps depending on action, players on the map, and the server. 60 is more than any human can detect with their eyes, just make sure you're not dipping into the 20's or 30's so you will always have smooth gameplay.

To the original poster, make sure you have any non-esential background programs shutdown before playing.

On toptic; That rig should run like a champ with the following settings:

Resolution - 1024x860
Terrain - High
Textures - Med
Effects - High
Geometry - High
Lighting - Med
Dynamic Lights - Med
Dynamic Shasows - Med
Antialiasing - 2x or 4x
Texture Filtering - High (same as 4x AF)
View Distance Scale - 100%
Audio - High; Hardware w/EAX
English VO Only (saves you about 260MB of system RAM)

run at 1280x960 everything on high and AA on 2x if on at all
