    Stinger/IGLA AA tips.

Ive seen a thread posted on how mounted machine guns are basically better than the stationary AA guns. Well Im not gonna completly disagree, but I will say that a good stinger guner can take down attack helis very quickly (BH harder) hopefully with these tips, that im sure some of you already employ.

-Firstly you see the enemy helo, spot it to keep it tracked on your radar.

-Now to be effective and get a hit, you need to fire at the locked helo in decent Range and with no flares released.
In order to get the helo into this position you need to do a number of things:

-Center the enemy helo in ur sights, even when you achieve heat seaking lock, do NOT fire, wait a number of seconds for him to release flares.
Now there are two different options. If you have achieved a lock for more than say 2-3 seconds, he must have no flares ready (or be a crap pilot) and therefore quickly release yor missiles.
-However most of the time, helos will have flares ready, because they reload reasonably quickly. Therefore WAIT until the flares have gone, be patient and fire off ur missiles.
-BUT you will have noticed that the helo pilot is now **** scared and probably will start flying all over the place to avoid any incoming missiles, so there is a decent chance that at least one missile will miss.
This is where your brain comes into play. You want to calm him down, and TRICK him into thinking that he is now safe and not locked on to. Therefore when you are RELOADING ur missiles, look AWAY from the enemy helo, so that no lock can be achieved, he will now think he is in the clear.
You now have a reloaded stinger, with an enemy helo (hopefully half damaged), so just quickly lock ur sights onto him and fire off.

This process works only if you remember to look away from the helo, and lull him into a false sense of security. But used effectively you should be able to bring down attack helos much more easily.
It also works when using the armoured mobile AA guns.

This is exactly what i already do, and it is really effective. Even if they kill me, i spawn next to another one and sit there again shooting them down

I usually lock them, wait for flares, and keep them locked until they fly away. Just before they hit the fogline I fire.

My experience is that the missiles are far more accurate at extremely close or extremely long ranges.

I suggest you get out of the AA emplacement during the reload time. Has two advantages:
-the Stinger/Igla is probably still facing in the right direction when you get back in.
-you don´t give away yourself to the flyboys and tell them "hello there, do me in with a quick strafing run".

...or...they've read your guide...and they know what to expect and they're waiting for you to launch before they deploy flares.

If you're a pilot and get locked on...you can try and spot rocket launch from the cockpit (may require you to pivot) (or you can swtich to external view and see where it's coming from)

What I do when I man the AA is as soon as I have lock (unless I see flare launch) I shoot one shot right away...and then wait a sec. If the pilot holds the flares, then hopefully I get a hit...pilot realizes "hey, he really is shooting" and dumps flares...I wait for them to fall away...regain lock and fire a shot again.

It's really a trial and error process...ther are many tactics...and a lot of it just depends on which the pilot uses and which the AA uses...

Some pilots will hover right above the AA...makes it very difficult to hit as you can't really get a good straight up shot off...

              I do all of these.

Today I managed to get 16 IGLA kills not even trying, I often find it easier to shoot alittle ahead of the chopper so the missile doesnt miss and fly around the back of it. Blackhawks are a bitch as 2 hits wont do it but there are a number of ways to finish it off. Just finish it off with an eryx or GP-30, as if its full people will jump out if they think its going to blow up. If its just one or two dudes they will most likely try and make it to their helipad which is very easy to take it down with a Kord on top of a FAV.

just attract him to your position......if he is far enough, fire 2 shots, making him think ur gonna die, well choices: quickly hold tight and fire, or hide, let him do his job on the stinger, he turns around to check(or if not, quickyl get in) get in and pop his fat metal ass

Jets can evade missiles by outmanouvering them. To increase your chances fire when jet is coming directly at or away from you. If it goes past you, the missiles need to turn which takes time and they loose speed ie. they are even easier to evade.

The problem with all missiles is that they loose their lock-on. If they did stay after their targets they certainly would be more effective. Speed and manouverability of missiles is about right, but I certainly hope that this lock-on issue is getting better.

I think a good pilot will know the locations of all the AA nests (I would if i was a good pilot).

These techniques may change with the v1.03 "Super" patch according to the latest Dev chat.

Looks like they "tweeked" the Stinger/IGLA so we won't have this happening:

Dunno, doesn't sound any more useful than staying locked on to me. I don't have to waste time relocking, the sound annoys the crap out of the pilot and gunner and they never know when the next shots are coming so they tend to drop flares again as soon as possible, which means I can get my next 2 shots off as soon as they're reloaded.

I was talking about having to worry about TK'ing when you have a lock on your enemy.

                              Sorry that I wasn't clear.
