Also one can of course map Mouse Look to one of the buttons on the joystick for an even easier setup.

Just noticed you are in SJ, NB...I grew up in nearby Rothesay and spent most of my time in SJ and even attended UNBSJ.

          Sorry for the derailment...carry on!

In your CONTROLS.CON file in your ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 directory:

Find in the Airplane section (ControlMap.create AirPlayerInputControlMap):
              Code:
              ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIMouseLook IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftCtrl 0 0
              and replace with:
              Code:
              ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIMouseLook IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftCtrl 0 0
              ControlMap.addButtonsToAxisMapping c_PIMouseLookX IDFGameController_0 IDButton_13 IDButton_15 0
              ControlMap.addButtonsToAxisMapping c_PIMouseLookY IDFGameController_0 IDButton_12 IDButton_14 0
              IDFGameController_0 is your system's joystick.
IDButton_13 is your joystick's right HAT button
IDButton_15 is your joystick's left HAT button
IDButton_12 is your joystick's up HAT button
IDButton_14 is your joystick's down HAT button

              Viola'.

Problem is, you still have to hold down LEFT CONTROL to use the HAT to mouselook while flying.

I haven't found a non-third party solution to allowing you map a button on your joystick to spot.
BTW, I can't find any CONTROLS.CON file anywhere in my BF2 folder structure.

Well it would if it didn't interupt the damn flight controls when you hit the mouse look key. If you look to long you start drifting or sinking.
I still prefer the chase cam views when in a jet, due to that issue alone.
                Hi RingMasTeR,

With the JoyToKey app I've been able to assign the mouse panning to the joystick had just fine, but I can't figure out how eliminate the need for holding down the CTRL key. Any suggestions?

                Thanks!

Its not in your BF2 folder, its in your My Document's folder:

                  ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Controls.con

If you have multiple profiles then it'll be 0002, 0003 etc...

here you go this little program will do it for you but you still need to use the ctrl key, but it will pan around with your joystick hat.

Thanks. JoyToKey works great. Now I just wish there were some way to eliminate the CTRL key.

                        Run two instances of JoyToKey.

Doing this will also allow you to map a button on your joystick to be pressed to spot what's currently in front of your nose.

I use AutoHotKey to do this www.autohotkey.com - its a freeware app that allows you to write scripts to emulate any sort of keyboard/mouse activity and supports HAT switches on all joysticks. I wrote a script for this, with the help of Talus , which can be compiled with AutoHotKey. It runs in the background & simulates pressing the MOUSELOOK key & mouse movement when you move the HAT switch. The script has L-CTRL mapped as the MOUSELOOK key, but you can edit the script. Unfortunately, when using MOUSELOOK BF2 does not allow you to use the joystick for flight ! I'm trying to work around this, but haven't found out how ! The script can be downlaoded here -

Ask if you need any help :)

Unfortunately, if BF2 is anything like the 1942 and BFV there is no way to get mouse look and flight controls to work at the same time. At least nobody so far has found a way in 3 years.

I'm wondering if its possible to switch between mouselook & flight controls very quickly so it does each for a few milliseconds. Cant get it working, but it might be too jery

I just mapped a joystick button to the mouse look and used that in conjunction with the hatswitch... the suggestion of running 2 instances of JtK could also work to.
