Any way to pan views with joystick hat?

As a longtime flight simmer, I'm a BF2 newbie and loving it! Please pardon me if this has been asked before, but...

QUESTION: I know that you can pan from within a cockpit by holding down the CTRL key and moving the mouse, but is there any way to pan solely by using the joystick hat?

I'm used to flying with a joystick and using the hat to pan my cockpit views, but trying to manage a CTRL key and mouse is all but impossible with a stick in your hand. Any suggestions, short of flying via the keyboard?

    Thanks.

I use JoyToKey to make my hatswitch emulate the mouse movement for the mouse look. works quite well, although i only use this in the chopper and blackhawk as it makes spotting target for my gunners a bit easier. Well it would if it didn't interupt the damn flight controls when you hit the mouse look key. If you look to long you start drifting or sinking.
I still prefer the chase cam views when in a jet, due to that issue alone.

That's the thing, they didn't give it thought, like the rest of the game. Very little was thought out I say.

Thanks much for the link to Joy ToKey! I just have to decide whether I'm up to configuring/debugging it.

My guess is that the BF2 designers/programmers didn't come from a flight simming background. That said, BF2 provides an absolutely amazing and immersive world. Let's hope it's only a matter time before the hat pan view is implemented.

Here's another solution that doesn't require you use any third-party programs, BUT does still require you hold down a key to go into mouse-look (default LEFT CONTROL). For me its not a big deal since I keep my left hand on the keyboard.

In your CONTROLS.CON file in your ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 directory:

Find in the Airplane section (ControlMap.create AirPlayerInputControlMap):
              Code:
              ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIMouseLook IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftCtrl 0 0
              and replace with:
              Code:
              ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIMouseLook IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftCtrl 0 0
              ControlMap.addButtonsToAxisMapping c_PIMouseLookX IDFGameController_0 IDButton_13 IDButton_15 0
              ControlMap.addButtonsToAxisMapping c_PIMouseLookY IDFGameController_0 IDButton_12 IDButton_14 0
              IDFGameController_0 is your system's joystick.
IDButton_13 is your joystick's right HAT button
IDButton_15 is your joystick's left HAT button
IDButton_12 is your joystick's up HAT button
IDButton_14 is your joystick's down HAT button

              Viola'.

Problem is, you still have to hold down LEFT CONTROL to use the HAT to mouselook while flying.

I haven't found a non-third party solution to allowing you map a button on your joystick to spot.

Nice solution. Is it possible to map the diagonal hat movements?

Diagonal movements should already work with the above .con file edit.

Remember my JoyToKey solution? It allows commo rose usage, no need to hold the control key for cockpit viewing, etc...

Yeah, the JoyToKey program does work and all, just trying to give a different solution that doesn't require installation of a third-party program.

Also note that you can run multiple instances of JoyToKey so you can spot while flying a jet.

I tend to agree Harmor a good solution to keep things simple (plus 1 less program in memory though imagine it doesn't use much memory).

I had been using the hatswitch for my different default views. While I would like to eventually use my TrackIR3 this might do the trick.

                        Regards

I mapped my Saitek X52 hat to the look-around with just the standard utility. There's a thread somewhere here...
