I use TS, and have for years. I have also had a TS server for years. Recently I joined a Ventrilo server, and I must say I was quite impressed with it.

The last time I tried it years ago it was very buggy and was not very nice to use. The new interface (new for me at least) seemed very interesting - not as easy point and click to setup though.

There seems to be some very very nice features in vent, like the audible announcement of players names as they enter/leave. I set mine up only to announce players names as they entered my channel. It is a digitized text to speech voice - and seems to work well.

I plan to put up a vent server as well and do some testing on both to see which works better. Right now I use in game VOIP, TS, and vent. It all depends on which server I am on, and which friends are online. I have had games going with all 3 voice sessions up and going. It was a bit hairy to know who was talking from vent to TS - but it all worked out well. I do not plan to do that too often though.

The admin side of TS is crap - having to log into the interface on the server - from the outside, it looks like vent can be admin'ed while just logged in from the client. I will have to play with it to see.

Right now I have public channels as well as private - the private ones are the pain for logins/id's for people loggin in.

Ventrilo is far superior in terms of voice quality in my experience...its a very easy to use program, and you can indeed admin it whilst just logged in as a user.

I feel that a majority of people use TeamSpeak as it is often a freebie, offered along side a server. Rarely will you get a ventrilo server offered.

Yeah, Ventrillo it great! Haven't used TS in a long time. I am an Admin on Ventrillo server & its nice. The sound quality it great also, plus you can adjust inbound, outbound volumes. Also there is a chat feature which you can have text-to-speech so you can be in a game & still hear what people type in the chat board.

Can you download ventrilo for free? And can everyone who logs onto your server do so for free?

Well i use TS becaus everyone in my clan does and everyone i know period does. I know how to use itwell. If Ventrilo is free i will give it a shot.

EDIT: I played around with Ventrilo and i have to say i was disappointed. The bare user interface, lack of customizable options and pure difficulties discourage me from using it. However, the interface in TS is unbellievably messy and there are many grammar and test mistakes.

You should add "None" on your poll

Or maybe you should post/vote at all?

I use Vent, but I'm amazed at how many people in the BF community prefer TS. I realize you can set up a sizeable server for free yourself, but personally, I don't see the point of sacraficing the bandwidth. I'd prefer to pay a few bucks a month for a 15-20 slot vent server, rather than hosting a TS server which suckes up my BW.

Vent is the superior product both in voice quality and interface.
