What if a Tank had a 3 person crew?

1 Main Gunner (inside)
1 Gunner (like the 2nd position in a tank is today)



Was just thinking if this would make the tank more squad orientated. Right now tanks are pretty much for the lone-"whore".

True, i would like to see it for a mod, rather than the vanilla Bf2.

Why? Because everyone is playing Bf2, whether they are teamplayers, padders, whorers or anything.

but people who play mods, i generally find, are more teamplay orientated - for one, you won't get any stat padders, and if a non teamplayer can't be bothered to download a mod, then you won't get him either.

Many clans are based on playing one mod and one mod only, and tanks like that would work well in the sense of teamwork, clanwork and armour squadrons.

gotta agree with that -- i would get pretty ****ed if i spotted a target (another tank) and the gunner would be daydreaming about cookies and milk and we'd get blow to sh!t

It works with choppers, buggies, hummers and planes but as with all these an in vehicle VOIP would be rather nice as often your squad mates are not able to get in before somebody else who you're unable to talk to does.

I think tanks are fine the way they are, because they've been that way since BF1942. What I'd like to see is APCs changed to a similar fashion, where the driver and main gunner are different positions. It was like that in BF:V with the BTR-60, and the gun on that thing wasn't anywhere near as powerful as the ones on the APCs in BF2. As it stands now the APCs are basically just tanks with a little less armour and room for a few more passengers. If they required two people to use them effectively, or maybe forced someone to change positions before they could shoot anything, then maybe they wouldn't dominate the battlefield and would take a bit more teamwork to use.

But, whatever. :p

As in real life, the tank commander should kick the gunners head and wake him up.

But seriously, this could only work in certain mods, where people are really into serious tactical, real life play. A tank driver position is a little boring in this game, it's not like he really has to learn how to drive the tank in order to avoid flipping it or getting stuck (chopper and jet pilots has to learn skills in order to fly well - driving the tank in the game is like walking. There is not much about it).

OFP had it, commander mode was great for spoting and calling out targets (Gunners didnt have 3rd person view)

that would be great.they do in joint ops,but like the one gentleman said about teamwork if you dont have it no point in a 3 man crew.but i know in joint ops when we run a 3man crew it is some better than alone.u get a spotter,driver and main gunner.

The only real crews that work in the game would have to be the helo crews. I just couldn't see a tank crew working very well.

You would have the same TR mess that occurs in Sony's Planetside where you would have to constantly have to request to keep your tank fully manned to be more effective and with the mass amount of loners in the game, they just will not bother getting in the tank and worry about their own gaming.

While it sounds nice to have one player focused on their own gun, if no one gets in, you are going to be a lot less effective that you currently are now and be way more disappointed.

I think 3 people in a tank would be interesting, but I think that the driver HAS to be able to man the main gun, unless there was some sort of lock on system, or the shells were tactical nukes. It would just be so hard to coordinate shooting that the tanks we be really nerfed.

I think maybe the 3rd person could be the tank commander, ie: able to "lightup" or mark targets on the 3D and mini map. Give the tank radar or something.

It would be interesting to see how something like this worked in a mod

One thing I never understood is why APCs don't need a 2nd person of man the TOW missle. It is SO BORING to ride in an APC looking out that stupid hole. I don't think I have EVER killed anyone from this position

It would mean that 3 people died instead of 2 when a Spec-Op C4's it's ass.
