Re: Commanders shouldn't be allowed into vehicles.

Some people can multi-task. It is possible to defend a flag and be a commander at the same time. It makes it easier for your team if they dont have to worry about the flag that is farthest from them.
That being said, a commander probably should not be flying a jet, but being a passenger on a heli is ok.
I am a fighting commander, either defending assets or the closest cap. I would rather be using a tank than have it available for enemy spec ops. It also makes it much easier to repair something by just parking next to it. Nothing more annoying than my teams vehicles getting stolen and used against us. If you want a vehicle a commander is in, just ask. If he is not doing a good job then try to mutiny. To all you laying down commanders---Defend, dont just hide in a tower or whatever. Take responsibility for your assets, repair them yourself. Those crates are just re-arming the spec ops destroying your stuff, and your team needs them more.

I'm the type of commander that fights CQC when it's necessary (Defending a base, going into battle with troops to cap a flag, etc.). I find that the troops appreciate my work.

And yes, I can easily multi-task.

Commander Score: 672 .... no they dont

beeing a commander is a full-time job and beeing a pilot/gunner/whatever is a fulltime job also. If your a commander camping in a tank in your base (although you are an easy pray to any pilot) or observing the battlefield with your M95 then its fine with me but everything else just doesnt work - everything else means that you either need to take your eyes from the map for a while or you are bussy commanding that you cant do your job as a helo gunner. (beeing a helo gunner YOU are the main weaon of that chopper so getting in as a passenger and shoot whenever you are bored doesnt cut it)

If I leave the tank empty then I inevitably have to kill it over and over again because it is the first thing that every Marine who comes up the hill sees. So if I see it empty I take it and use it to take out any BHs that come near the back flag.

Same sort of thing happens on a lot of other maps - if I see an important asset lying idle I take it. If someone wants to use it all they have to do is ask, but I'm not going to leave it lying around so that the enemy can cap our main base more easily.

I find the tank goes unused allot as well on songhua :P,when i command from the base... usually i grab it and take it down to the first base where my people are then abandon it for someone so they use it.

I don't agree with commanders getting in jets but I do use buggys/apc passenger slots allot when I command, sitting in a base with the wrench out isn't much fun for commanders. Most of the time no one wants to be a commander so when someone takes it up half way through the match don't freaking bitch at him because he likes firing a weapon mkay?

I personaly think once someone has got commander there model should be removed off the battlefield compleatly so he can not run around, cap flags etc, If he resigns then hes visable again. its more annoying to me to see a active commander being killed over and over again and squads loosing vital support because they have a gunhoe commander who keeps getting killed thus loosing 15 secs each time where he can't use his command fuctions and help his squads/team.

I was on a server where the commander was sitting in the MEC chopper in the north of Sharqi for a good few minutes, drove up, and c4'ed him, didn't kill him because of FF, so rammed him with the vehicle and made it his chopper tip over.

If you want to fly around in a jet or drive around in a vehicle then don't command ok? Let someone else do it.

It really depends on the server and how many people are playing, what's going on etc. etc.

These are not generals so technically they might end up seeing combat....but htis is a game...however under no circumstances should a commander be flying....Also people dont forget the commander doesnt need his map to drop supplies, arty, or put up a UAV he can do it via his commanders rose (the "T" key)....

More often then not though the commander should be hunkerd down somewhere staring at his map...but making it so the commander cant fight would just be stupid....think about it what if hes the last man standing????????

For the most part when I command I find a good hiding spot with plenty of protection.....

i play a decent amount as commander
i completely agree that commander in crucial vehicle is a big no no
but I also think that the commander should be allowed some kind of ability sometimes just to save his own ass -- not saying he should be flying around in a jet like a moron while everyone screams for supplies, uavs, and artillery. He should remain mobile somehow because if he is always reserved to one position he is gonna be easy to take out -- over and over and over

The only time I break out of hiding is to recap a nearby base that might get taken, or I will go take out snipers that my squads cannot seem to get to.

I have the advantage of knowing which way they are looking and can kill them easily almost every time. I try to knife them as much as I can - looks so nice in bright yellow to see [knife] - lol. I only do this when there is a break in the action, or I am waiting on arty/scan/uav to come back.

I agree with the other posts too about commander should be on voice as well.

Compare it to my combat. I'm fighting more then commanding.

Re: Commanders shouldn't be allowed into vehicles.

I think it depends on the situation.

I tried commander again last night (2nd time) after losing a round where noone was commanding. So take this with a grain of salt. Or a whole shaker.

It seems that when I hunkered down and commanded, we won. On the other hand, if I wouldn't take the time to defend main against occasional threat, we'd lose a lot of tickets and waste a lot of time repairing assets.

So I think a case can be made for a commander who occasionally joins the fight. Alternatively, if they wanted to remove commander from the battle, that'd be fine too.

In that case (if he was removed), using the "c" button would show a grey-haired officer in a perfect uniform, drinking a coffee, and staring a computer monitor, with his feet up on the desk.

                          Just like real life.

                          J.

Commanders doing there job and helping on the battlefield physically is a better option. I fight on my feet as a commander because obviously there is a timer on all your assets. Thats a lot of down time. Before everyone screams what about tracking and spotting. UAV's do more for spotting than individually spotting. Micro managing is bad. Only in rare cases should a commander have to zoom all hte way in and spot physically. Switching to the map and scanning and such is a simple task and so is deploying your assets. As a commander I've captured numerous flags just because my team would not follow. Also a commander still counts for a faster flag capture.

A commander shouldn't have to baby his troops. His troops should work for him. Your troops can spot a hell of a lot easier just by shear numbers. If they can't it's their flaw.

I agree with commanders being on their feet - but only to an extent. They should not take primary offensive vehicles for sure - especially flying ones.

Again simply stated - personally I would rather have my team doing the majority of the kills - the more kills they get - the better score I get.

I do believe in getting out there and helping if I have to - like getting overrun on a spawn, when i can step in and take a couple people out - but I am no where near aggressive - because if I am dead, I cannot help my troops...and if I take kills from them, I take score from me.
