Exactly right, except that if the initial velocity is the same then the heavier round should have *less* bullet drop, because air resistance will have more effect on the lighter round.

In rl the M95 has a much flatter trajectory than any of the other rifles.

Guys guys unfortunately there is a bullet drop in the game, but i don't know why because think for a sec. rifles like M95 are made for shooting over 1000m and it is normally to has a bullet drop on such a distance, but in BF2 you can't shoot farther than 400 m so i think there should not be any bullet drop.

TBH i dont think there is any bullet drop in BF2, DICE have even stated that there isnt any, what i do think is the cause of this is the crappy crosshair on the M95 ...its certainly not as thin as a single hair that is for sure! plus the engine renderd objects very differently when they are far away, ever tried sniping a guy purched onto of a hill and not been able to hit him..... if you where to get close the hill would morph and show you that hes more behind the hil than ontop of it.

I kinda wish the BF2 manual went into all of this detail. Seeing as it's kinda important and all. It'd cut down on our posts on this board by about half.

I so agree. The same thing happens with my G36C. Moreover, when I upgraded my Video Card from ATI X300, 20-30 FPS to my X800, 50-60 FPS. My accuracy has greatly improved. Not to mention flying.

              Latency...it's all about Latency.

Recently i have been playing tons of different servers. And although, my ping appears to be roughly the same on each, my shots vary, tons. Some servers, my latency appears so perfect, the target can be bunny hopping, running, skipping, far away, close, dont matter. I drop them at will. Quick shots, leading shots, whatever. They fall.
However, within a half hour i can visit another server, and i couldnt hit a guy 100 yards away, snoring in an upright position with a whole clip.
Im gonna say its a latency thing with your connection to the server.

But that would ruin all the fun and speculation we're having about the subject

Anyhow I wonder if this will all change after the 1.03 "super" patch this October 3rd?

I agree, when you rest a second from moving the weapon it seems allot more accurate, and there is definately bullet drop.

That's not latency. It's frames per second. The higher the FPS the more accurate you can be on moving targets.

                      Re: Sniper Accuracy: Recticle Convergence

I dont know much about hitting things farther than 250m (still working on headshots before I try that), but I was wondering about something. All the weapons have vertical bullet deviation, right? What happens if the deviation is only very little, but when you do it over such a huge distance it looks like bullet drop? Things like travelling to the moon, if you are off in your direction by 1 foot, you could end up way off course because of the distance. What if it is something like that? I know people that I trust say that there is bullet drop, but I still cant ignore that coders I also trust have read parts of the code and said that there isnt any. I really do wish that EA or Dice would just come out and tell us exactly and to the point if there is. Reading posts like this just gets confusing becuase everyone feels differently about it, and personall experiences dont prove a thing when I'm behind the mouse.

                        Re: Sniper Accuracy: Recticle Convergence

The M95 seems to be randomly inaccurate.
Sometimes I manage to do almost impossible shots, hitting them in the head with the first shot, from very far away (aiming at their head, not higher, so sometimes there is no bullet drop).

Other times, it's just impossible to hit someone who's so close that you can exacly see what weapon he is holding.

Its not latency. I have played with a HUGE internet connection with a ping of 9ms...the situation is the same. Lag doesnt cause delay in bullet travel time...it causes delays in the time between pulling the trigger and firing the bullet.

I am sure there is bullet drop, but I rarely worry about it, only for really long range shots do I ever aim above the head, if it is quite long range but not extreme long range then I aim for top of the head. I used the sniper rifle extensivley in the demo and for the first few days and still use it a lot. I think the recticle convergence is prorbably right, if I know I have time I always wait about a second before firing, it seems to be more accurate.

Perhaps there is a small pattern of deviation implemented into sniper riffles?

I use the support alot and the pattern is pretty obvious, when spraying with the pkm, i know that i'll hit 3 times in the straight center within 3 seconds of full auto firing. After that, i stop the burst because getting straight shots starts getting rare (and odds are the other guy will headshot me by then. It's the same pattern over and over.

So what if that observed bullet drop was in fact deviation as suggested above (rather than drop), simply caused by a deviation pattern similar to other weapons (although much less obvious at anything but extreme range)

I say this because i've never aimed at anything but straight crosshair center and got shots from very far.

When I'm sniping with my m95 at long distances I always aim little higher and I get about 70% accuracy.
