The protestor wasn't crushed. Seeing a column of tanks driving towards the protest area, the protestor blocked the column's path; the column continually tried to go around him but the protestor kept blocking them The driver of the first tank in the column was ordered to run over the protestor, but the tank driver refused to run over his own countrymen. The tank driver was later arrested and probably court martialed.
It isn't exactly clear what happened to the protestor afterwards. Reports and rumors say the protestor was executed but its also been said he is in hiding or even being held in prison. IMO, he was arrested and sent to prison to be "reeducated."
I'm sure somebody a little older and wiser has already figured it out. It's the Tianamin square protest. You know, that famous footage of the guy standing in front of the tank?
