I'm only 20 and I recoginised that shot straight away. I guess that's because I give a crap about what happens outside of my backyard, obviously unlike a lot of readers here.

WOW i cant belive many of you guys dident get that...even thoe i read two books on the tanimun square. The video of that event is even more powerful then the picture, and later he was surly arrested and executed, for his crime agenst "the government"

Considering your spelling and grammar, I dont think you have the right to be condescending.

Thats kind of bad seeing as many people died and that man was tourted to death for trying to stop the tanks.

I can't believe the number of clueless and outright ignorant post about the Tiananmen Square massacre. It's true that many unarmed peaceful people were gunned down or crushed by vehicles. Thousand of people died prostesting the corruption and malfesence of government officials out of control but that guy who risked his life and limb to stop the column of tanks is most likely alive and living somewhere in China.

It took me ten minutes of searching to find this article that mentions the name of the student who stopped those tanks. His name is Wang Weilin. He did a very brave thing, standing at the head of that tank column.

Not only do you guys need to get a grip on history but you also need to get a better perspective on politics and governments in general. All that torture stuff for political protest is strictly Hollywood.

I know you aren't going to tell me that the chinese didn't torture and kill people who opposed their government. BS sounds like you're the one who needs to get a grip on reality everyone is trying to talk constantly about all the horrible things the US does and then flat out deny that other countries governments have done far worse

I remember watching that live when i was a kid i was about 12 at the time and I was up late watching all this going on it was really amazing to watch those people were extremely brave thats why it made such big news because of the consequences of their protests. The reason they didn't shoot him or run him over was because they knew the news cameras were filming all of it and China tries really hard show the world something other than what they really are

I'm not racist nor do i hate chinese people i just hate communists and the chinese government and i can guarantee you if the cameras hadn't been filming he would have been killed in an instant

Nope, he wasn't executed most definitely. I remember reading about that event recently. Everyone wanted to know (including the worlds media) his name etc. I can't remember his name from the interview, although I doubt I could spell it anyway.

Anyway, it is an astounding image tbh. If you look closely enough, you might just make out the brown stains on his trousers. I'd certainly have some stains

It's from that big student protest in China. And the images of a student trying to stop a tank were shown around the world.

Right, and just think those people where doing what you can legally do in the USA or any other democracy based government...hold a protest....but since that’s China and well, they are communist...the people got slaughtered for it....I cant believe people don’t know about this....I guess that’s why many things will always be the way they are....
