defending rocks! Its amazing what you can accomplish with 2 or 3 guys defending one flag... last night on shonghua stalemate I defended the flag with one clanmate, all round long, shooting BHs out of the sky and telling the commander we werent going to leave our little CP, dispite his efforts to get us to attack. They never capped the flag, it wqs awesome.

I think the defend flag score should be 2 pnts aswell.. it should be made alittle more attractive.

The problem with defending is there is very little reward in it unless you are getting non stop pummeled (to which that usually only happens when its the last base). You do get a fealing of satisfaction, but not when looking at your scoreboards. I think that once I get my 3rd unlock I will start to defend more, but until then I just cant afford it. I really want to get my next unlock, and the best way to do that is to be on the front lines capturing flags with a squad.

Like someone else said above, they need to make defending worth it more. I would rather wait for someone to take the flag, then go back to it and capture it again. More points overall. You still get the same basic kills, and you get 2 points instead of 1.

I think the back base or main can be easily defended by a single commander quite simply by what many people have already mentioned, planting c4 and waiting for someone to attack. Whenever i go commander i always go spec ops plant some c4, hide and do my job and when i see that little flag go grey BOOM!! defended flag. Then i go to a supply crate and reload on c4 and do it all over again.

I've seen countless matches where my team grabs all the flags on the map, then just loses them all again. By that time the team is just one huge mob running around capturing a flag then losing it right behind them again.
Altho usually these games have the commander flying a jet or something.

one reason why im hesitant to defend alot of the time is that artillery, i hate it with a passion, you cant get comfy while defending like you could in the old bf1942/mods and i also blame this nice ranking system they introduced, who the hell wants to sit and defend when theres points to be made

missing DC more and more each day, defending that southern flag on el alamein was brilliant fun.

If I see someone coming on my commander screen, i switch and press the switch :) BOOM.
Funny, but I think specops is a kickass defender: can kill infantry and armor as well.
I still think the best defending squad is a AT/Engineer... and maybe throw a Support in if the server count allows it.

Both have Anti-Tank capabilities. The Engineer can Repair assets and thus leave the commander to allocate supply drops more logically. Anti-Tank... is, well. Anti-Tank. Dominate if you aim all of your rockets at the rear of the tank.

Re: Defense, and the lack of it.

wtf -defending is camping? bite me - it is not.

Camping is when you sit on a spawn of the opposing team. Just sitting there - not capping - just getting easy kills on people as they just spawn. Staying 'camped' at your own base is defending - completely opposite.

People have a choice to come to your base - you are not raping them repeatedly, unless they come back by choice.

I agree with the radius idea for defending pts. There is a fine line as to when you kill people for the defend pts or not. If you wait for them to get right next to the flag and blow the c4 - if you did not get them all - they can cap the flag right after that. Especially when they roll in with a couple vehicles. If you wait for the second vehicle, as soon as it gets in range, flag goes white - no defensive pts.

I think you should get pts if the flag is neutral as well as your own. You have defended that point from invading team trying to cap that flag. Thus defensive pts.

Exactly. And while getting overwhelmed by armor while on defense may be the whomping that sticks in your mind, far more often I think it is one or two guyd who wander over hoping for a quick flag cap. They are easily dealt with.

So, so often I am commanding and I see one enemy guy, on foot, heading towards a back flag, and I have no one in range I can call on to head them off. One or two guys on each flag would make a world of difference and to hell with the points. Where are my strong safeties? [PS Hi, I'm :wall: JOIN AN EFFING SQUAD :wall: and I approve this message.]

Also, if one or two guys would defend at each flag (or even half of them) BH whoring would go the way of the wind.

Re: Defense, and the lack of it.

I've posted this a couple of times elsewhere, but I'd love to see the engineers able to actually Build/move/destroy the gun emplacements. That would encourage engineers to stay behind at flags that were captured, but since the engineers gun is only good for close quarters, then they would need a squad to help defend them against advancing enemy forces. The squad could then get into the emplacements and defend the flag...the trick for balance would be to allow each team only a certain ammount of each emplacements...or better yet...say a set ammount of "resources" and each emplacement takes so many resources to build...so you could have a 5-6 machine guns over the entire map, but then you couldn't have any AT or AA emplacements anywhere.

You could have say, Small calibre machine guns, large calibre machine guns, AT stingers, AA heat seakers, sand bags, you could dig foxholes, possibly razor wire....

how to make defence more appealing, simple increase the defend flag points to 2 or 4! That'll keep players at home while the boys go off to hunt!!
