    Adapting military strategies to BF2

Have you guys ever adapted some real life military strategie to BF2? Here are some thoughts:

As we all know, Germany had overwhelming success in the beginning of WW II. They overran Poland and France within a few weeks of battle, though at least the french military was well-equipped and numerous. So how did the germans manage to bring them down within such a short time?

The success came from a new military strategy called "Blitzkrieg" (engl. Lightning War), which was carried out with a huge amount of tanks (germ. "Panzer"), Mobile Infantry (germ. "mechanisierte Truppen") and Bombers.

The idea was to pull all the tanks and fast Mobile Infantry together, group them into tank-divisions (germ. "Panzerdivision") and provide any necessary support (such as repairs, pioneers and so on) for them, so they could be used at maximum efficiency. This tactic also requested a totally new infantry soldier, called "Panzergrenadier" (engl. Tank-rifleman), who was used to support the tanks in close quarter combat.

I think this tactic could be adapted in BF 2. Let's say you have a squad of 6 People and a Tank. You need the following:

    1 Support Gunner
    2 Mechs
    2 Assault Troopers (germ. "Grenadier")
    1 Medic

Either the medic or the support gunner are driving the tank (I prefer the support, though the medic is more vulnerable). The remaining soldiers walk beside the tank. The assault troopers are at the front (not in front though, just aside at the front) behind them you'll place the mechs and at the rear you place the support or medic.

Now what all that stuff for?

The tank is the strongest weapon in BF2. But when driving around all by himself, it often ends up being shot by AT or being C4ed by Specs or even being shot by some other tank. So the tank needs support in order to work efficient:

The support gunner refills the ammo of the tank and the surrounding soldiers as well. The assault troopers take out enemy ATs or SpecOps in advance, while the two Mechs repair the tank, if he's been shot and the medic ensures, that there are no casualities. You might think, this is a whole lot of effort just to protect a tank. But there's not only advantage for the tank. The soldiers benefit as well, as they can just avoid being hit by hiding behind the tank. Futher more, they don't have to take any AT-Soldier with them, because the tank's blowing everything up.

So, as you see, we have a self-maintaining, very strong attack-force, which can take on every role in battle with full efficiency.

Well, that's all, looking forward to hearing your comments/suggestions and hopefully you'll give it a try with your clan/squad. And pls excuse my english, I'm not a native speaker.

Do you realize how much teamwork is required for this? Do you realize if such teamwork was common just about any military tactic would work?

The only tactic I used based on real-life is flanking and pinning enemies down for my own enjoyment.

Well, I don't agree with you.

        1. The only thing those guys have to do is advancing at the same speed. Nothing else. The tank takes out the armor and infantry-bulks, the infantry takes out single footmen. The medic revives his Teammates and the mechs repair the tank. That's basic stuff. I don't see you point here.

        2. Not all the real life military tactics can be adapted, as they require too many people and are too big to use on one single flag or even an area.

Only an organised clan could do it properly.

With out a clan, if this was actually organised the first thing to go wrong would be the tank TK'ing by accidently running over the infantry.

If it could work it would be great but i don't think this is the best example of a military tactic that could be best implemented into BF2.

An easier and effective tactic such as 'Fire' and 'Manouver' (by which a base of fire is created while others attack, allowing an advance to be made with cover fire being provided to most if not all members) is a little more suited to the relative disorganisation of online play.

Terrible strategy. You'd just TK the guys running beside your tank, since it's impossible to control your speed as you would in the real world. Not to mention that the tank isn't any less vulnerable to ATs with those assault guys around, though they'd help for c4.

Real world strategies rarely work out in games. Of course, so do, such as flanking (which Bird Killer mentioned).

I think it's pretty cool, only problem is that tanks are a lot faster than people in BF2, and you can't control the throttle like you would in real life.

I believe you could control the throttle, by simply tapping the forward key instead of holding it, or a gamepad that is pressure sensetive. Although I think that one mech, should be swapped out for an AT, since one shot from a tank does not take out another tank, but one tank shot, 1 AT and if needed 2 noob tube shots from the Assault would take out any tank even if the shots were not well placed.

                  Its a great strategy IF:

                  1. There were people that actually work together.

                  2. You could control a tanks speed.

                  3. What if the medic dies? Many people are stupid and dont think about picking up their kit to revive them.

Im sure it would all work well until a jet or helicopter kills you all.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing. Please let me know when you try this so I can hop in the bomber's seat of an F-15 and get 6 kills with 1 missle

Otherwise, it's a good idea. Tanks need to be supported by infantry or other vehicles nearby. Earlier this week, I was in a hummer parked next to a tank on road that goes down from the main USMC base down to the NE base with the sattellite on Mashtuur City. Both myself and the tank driver were engineers. We just sat on that road suppressing the enemy as our teammates moved across the hills with the artillery to take the flag. The tank was the AT rocket target, so I was able to just sit next to him and repair as I keep that .50 cal spewing death. I'd occassionally take some splash damage or whatever but the tank was keeping me healthy. It was great :)

                        true.

majority who play this game are kids and i don't think they even know germany was our enemy during the world wars!

Re: Adapting military strategies to BF2

Yeah, a clan or group of friends, on teamspeak could do this.
And yes, a tank with a dedicated (2 would rock) support/grenadier walking with it would own. IT would ensure no one c4s it. and any anti tank fire comming from AT guys would be supressed quickly. And any hits from these guys would be counter productive as you would have an engineer with you as well.
For clan battles, yes, a good tactic. And if you could get a squad to do this on pubs...you would pretty much own any flag you wished on taking. Especially considering how unorganized most play.
In a perfect world you would have air, supporting, tank supporting, and infantry attacking flags. In this unperfect world, (bf2) you have air, tanks and infantry attacking and capping flags.
I think making the game so you could NOT cap a flag while being in any type of vehical would only enhance the gameplay for all. But......who knows.

HAHAHAHAHA dude, I can't even tell my team to get out of the way when I'm dropping an f*ing arty, much less make them cover an M1 tank...:hmm: :p

I agree, that this tactic is for Clans only, but I don't see the point of people who critique the essence of the strategy, since there's almost no weak spot. And by the way, I think most of you guys don't know exactly how this tactic was performed. The Infantry does NOT stick too close to the tank. They are just near it, so they won't be killed, when the tank explodes.
