its on dabs.co.uk for £145.. have you read the specs of the x-fi hardware... it could be vaporware but it sounds very impressive and as im in the market for a soundcard, im gonna give it a go.
Same thing counts for the fatality motherboard. I'd rather spend my money on a decent dual CPU Mobo, that can host two dual core Xeon's
And I don't think that the sound in BF2 can get much better then with my Audigy 2 ZS.
Its odd that BF2 has a specific X-FI setting in the sound options... plus because it renders all sound thru the hardware, you get a performance boost too... so even if it doesnt sound better than the ZS, its gonna help your machine run..
i must stress, i havent even tried it yet and ive been disappointed plenty of times with hyped hardware so the thing may be complete crap.... but it may be the next big thing too
Im not familiar with the fatility mobo but with the X-FI, the fatal1ty version just happens to be the one closest to what i want and can afford.. creative havent just decided to make a card to put his name on, its a brand new design card that they just happen to have got this dude to endorse.
Dabs are cheaper but i dont trust their site, ive had problems returning goods to them in the past.
yeah saw that, but they havent got them instock and when we phoned the trade side (we have account), they were estimating 2 weeks before getting em in.
It seems is a marketing scam - BF2 and X-Fi tech. Yes it has in built RAM but after reading many reviews there is not much of a performance enhance... I think there was an extra 3 or 4 frames per second. Considering how much extra you paying for it, it really isn't worth it. I guess its for the gamer extremists who have the cash lying around. I spent my handy cash more wisely and purchased another 74GB Raptor Drive now running DUAL RAID :=D
Im not buying mine just for bf2... all new games will start bringing in x-fi capabilities and thats where we will really see it shine. And plus im using onboard sound so ive been waiting for this for quite sometime.
my mate works for creative and has tested all incarnations of the xfi. he says it's the daddy and will be simply amazing the first time you hear stuff on it.
he has also advised me not to waste money on the versions with 64mb of XRAM (inc. the fatality versions) as by the time games come out that will actually bother to use it they will either need more than 64mb xram or will just use the vast amounts of extra system ram most games machines will have
check out this month's custompc too - it shows the performance increase. Note that the gains are nothing at all to do with the xram, just the better sound chip.
can't state this enough - don't waste cash getting the more expensive versions, get the cheapest one and you get ALL the benefits. Even BF2 makes no use of the xram.
