    Alternate BH strategy?

On the battlefield the other day and i joined a squad..., they immediatly took to the BH, i thought hey ho another BH ho3 session. However i was pleasently suprised, The squad leader had VoIP an he instructed that he wasnt going to cap the flag with the hawk, that would be up to us!.

We would approach an enemy flag, fly straight over it and all but 2 (squad leader and engy) would bail out, we would cap the flag on the ground while the BH flew in circles around the base covering with the minigun. Once the flag was capped, the SL arranged a place for pick up of any of those left, if we died in the capping we would spawn in the BH and jump straight out again until it was capped.

I gotta say was a nice tactic rather than jus hover capping.

Sounds like a solid tactic in theory, and it's fair play. Kudos to the SL!

Yeah that's the way it should be done, you can land a BH around any of the flags, I would rather play that way than just flying around capping, plus you get the bonus of air cover (and spotting armour) while trying to cap.

You'll HAVE to do that after the patch...

With the changes in the next patch, I think this is the way you will have to do it. :)

They are making it so that only 1 person in a vehicle counts as being in the cap zone, the others must get out for them to be counted as being in the flag radius.

Well I wouldn't count on the average pubber to bail out of the BH to help cap a flag faster, and I also wouldn't count on the pilot to land nearby to pickup them back up.

True, but perhaps out of necessity some people will learn... :)

In our BF2C tournement the BH is takin to max altitude over a flag and all HALO jump into the area to cap the flag. It is very effective in our tournement due to the fact the BH last about 30 seconds at low altitude when we play.

I believe that's one of the ways the BH was supposed to be used initially.
Also this way it is very hard to bring the BH down because it is constantly moving, and people have a safe spot to spawn.
It also sounds like a LOT more fun then just sitting in a BH, and showing off teh l337 skill of sitting and twisting a wrench...

Well i wouldnt say it helped cap the flag faster, in most cases it didnt .. but it felt more like teamwork and you could have a good groundbased scrap at the same time. It was almost a rush to play like this, like your part in the team actually mattered AND made a difference.

I agree, this is how it should be done and will be done after the patch. But just wait fellas -- there will be teams that will still wrack up as many points as before doing this and the whiners will start in after them.

Some guys just can't seem to accept the fact that they suck and get owned by others.

yeah, i do that tactic as much as I can. Im a medic and SL and i pilot the BH, the rest of my team bail either close to the ground or do a HALO, then they assualt the flag (or area of enemy contacts) while i bomb around in the air, high enough to not be shot, and avoiding planes and choppers. If my team die, never mind they can spawn on me and parachute back in, but once they have the area secured, i land, they peg it in, and I start healing them, and a support rearms them. We fly off into the distance and continue our domination of the area!

Its really cool, I don't mind not attacking with the team, I won't get many points from it...but im not bothered...my squad will get points, and we should help to win the game.

That is an awesome tactic and one i believe CANNOT be whined about. Although i have been a BH pilot many times i would still rather do that than just cap and run. Mind you i don't just do that either. I have spent a lot of time learning the art of BH flying and capping, well i wouldn't say just capping cause i don't just cap and run. If your anywhere in the radius of that flag(even if your hiding) i will position my gunners to take you out 9 times out of 10.

Kudos to you Bob, you always seem to write very good posts.
