    1. You can speak with your co-pilot through VoIP.
    2. Co-pilot can spawn next to you.

You can always join other squads or make your own if your SL is a pilot. It's not pilots fault if you join his squad.
Actually a full squad in a blackhawk is unstoppable. have the SL as a pilot, a few engineers, 1 support and 2 more medics on the mini's and you have a winning squad. Anybody dies and they just spawn on the helo monkey!

      Thank you! Amen!

Any time I go to fly the chopper I create a squad, and I ask my gunner to join my squad and then just pray they have VOIP.

If I have a full squad carried over from another map or what have you - I change strategies, but if I go back to the attack chopper I always let them know. Most of the time, the other 4 are off storming a base and my gunner and I provide cover. I can even have my gunner jump out, then dead guy spawns in, jumps out - etc - until the squad all gets relocated across the map faster than they could otherwise.

The only way squad leader is effective to the fullest is with your squad on voice. I host a teamspeak and ventrilo server for this very reason - just in case someone or the server does not have in game chat - I can still speak with them through another source. I usually filter servers for VOIP though, just wish more people used it.

Bad idea... Why? Because everyone will be spawning around the sniper SL and giving away the position.
Best class for SL is a medic. You can revive your mates and if they die, they will respawn right next to you. Just play smart.

That's why I believe there should be a PILOT class that is the only class that can pilot choppers and aircraft.

That depends on how you're playing sniper. There's a discussion in the Sniping Tips thread about another way to snipe besides finding a tree and taking potshots; following a squad at 40-50 m and providing assisting fire. Even if you don't get kills, you'll make sure they win more firefights. Note: this is much more effective with SVD and M95 than with M24.

I've played in some great squads with snipers as SL. He sends me to blow up a bridge or take a flag, and I know he's watching me, and can at least call a warning.

See, the reason I think this is not a good idea is that it'll only encourage plane camping. If somebody could do somethign useful rather than hop around a helipad, they might eventually be convinced to do so. But if they're a pilot, well then, they're just committed, aren't they?

I think the idea would be useful, but you know what would happen.

50% of the team would be "Pilot"

                    Re: Squad leader tactics

I've been playing a lot as squad leader recently, my primary class is as a medic(95%) of the time.

Some things I've learned to do:

Give a lot of move orders. For instance, if you are attacking a base, don't just right click inside of it and say "Attack", set up to attack from an usual direction, such as between the ENEMY'S main spawn and the base, not from the direction of your own spawn.

Hang back and let your boys spawn and then rush in. Don't get killed needlessly.

As medic: jump + throw med pack to throw it further so you don't have to run out so far to get health packs out.

Inbetween spawns, move to another location so your guys are streaming in from different directions. For example, if you came in the first time at 2 o'clock to a base, move around it during the spawn recharge and let the guys spawn at 6 o'clock to the base. This keeps the enemy constantly re-adjusting and some positions of cover they ONCE had may not be valuable anymore.

Tell teammates to vary the class types. Many people are willing to change if you ask them to do so for a specific goal or to counter a specific threat. Asking somebody to spawn in as sniper and claymore our rear and provide covering fire is very useful and somebody always wants to do that.

Communicate with other squads. Hard to do but just check the Sl names in other squads and try to coordinate. Not easy though.

Bug the commander a lot. Ask him to send other squads to help you out etc.

In football they say you should choose the system to match the players, not vice versa. Think thats the same for squad leaders.

A good squad leader should be able to use his squads abilities rather than expect the squad to fit his plan or style of play.

                        Re: Squad leader tactics

They do the opposite in football all the time. They trade players to find a better fit for the team's system, they train and drill so players can learn the system, etc.

                        The leader should LEAD.

The worse thing is when you have half the map taken over and everyone wants to spawn at a helo pad at the WRONG end of the map. Instead of pushing fwd to suppress the enemy, they let people drive all over the map and regain terretory. My advice is to spawn with your squad if they are in the heat of battle and not to just go for a helo. If you do, dont join squads.

That's what the lock squad feature is for....pilots should be SL's and use lock squad.

Anyone ever try rotating SL's upon SL death?

If you're SL and u die....leave squad and rejoin squad before respawn....instant new (alive and in same area) SL. Only works w/ good communication and efficient squad.
