Re: Why arn't I seeing posts about the a-tank unlock?
Well here's a more detailed breakdown of the differences:
Damage: the DAO does 12x8 the JH does 15x8 so you get a little more damage per round from the JH. The JH can do a one shot kill to the body if the target has no armour, but you need to aim for the head to get a one shot kill with the DAO.
Rounds before reloading: 12 for the DAO, 7 for the JH. This is the big advantage for the DAO, because it allows you to take down 3 targets pretty easily, maybe 4 in a pinch. With the JH you probably won't get more than 2.
Reloading: This is complicated. The reload on the JH is slow, the reload on the DAO is really slow. The DAO reloads one round at a time however so you can keep it "topped up" without buring ammo too fast. You can also do partial reloads by switching back and forth between weapons in the middle of a reload. Personally I prefer the DAO setup but I can see how people might differ on this.
Recoil: The JH has higher recoil, and more deviation, but I can't really tell the difference in use. In theory this should make the effective range for the DAO a little longer.
Full auto: The JH has full auto, but the rate of fire is slow enough that the DAO can dish out the rounds just as fast. You need to be very careful holding down the trigger on the JH because you can empty the mag fast and hit nothing that way. I always find myself firing the JH like a semi-auto.
What really makes the difference in combat is the rest of the kit. The AT class gets body armour so it is more survivable. They also get AT rockets which make it possible to engage targets beyond close range (not to mention the ability to engage all sorts of vehicles). (edit: For some strange reason they don't get grenades, which can be a pain sometimes.) If you really want to go shotgun-assault I think the AT/DAO combination is better.
If you want to play engineer, but also want the ability to put the smackdown on people when you lose your ride, then the JH is well worthwhile.
Re: Why arn't I seeing posts about the a-tank unlock?
I just unlocked the DAO last night (G36C first), and did very well. You do have to be more careful about just running down a street, or having a buddy with an M16 to cover those longer shots. I like the AT for taking out vehicles, so it worked out well for me.
Re: Why arn't I seeing posts about the a-tank unlock?
I don't think people play AT just to kill people with the missle. Many times you will spawn to kill a vehicle then be easy picking for someone with ranged weapons. Against most classes, you will lose unless you go Rocket Man.
Re: Why arn't I seeing posts about the a-tank unlock?
Thats why the unlock is so good, the rockets can take out all those campers in the tanks and the apcs while still giving you great odds in combat what other unlock can make you a challenge to every other player?
The fast rate of fire is the real benefit, I fire it 3 times per person and there's no doubt they're going down... as for the range?... I was shocked on how far this thing fires! It took half the health of my mate from a range i'd be proud of the L851 group hitting without scope.
Re: Why arn't I seeing posts about the a-tank unlock?
you just have to be a little more tactical with the DAO..on city maps if you see someone at medium i just run back into the alley I came from and wait...wait...wait...then I sprint right out and blast them close range as nine times out of ten they will try and follow you.
recently messed with the unlocks for the demo and I was impressed by the engineer shotty..if I played engineer more I would unlock that but g36c for me next.
DAO is just a huge upgrade to the standard weapon...

QFT.
Of course, a bottle of 151 with a burning rag jammed in the neck would be a huge upgrade over the standard AT weapon.

Yeah, with the limited splash of the AT rounds it really isn't anything like the noob tube. You have to get a direct hit or place it right at their feet. You can't just bounce and shoot in the target's general direction like you can with the toob. If it's what you happen to be holding when you run into someone, or if you emptied your shotgun already, then its worth a try, but its not easy to use in CQC.
Re: Why arn't I seeing posts about the a-tank unlock?
http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/SH09-E.HTM There you go, I play AT most of the time and only use the sraw to get guys on roof tops, most of the time its pretty usesless if a guy is moving, and yeah you have to think a little about how to go into a fight. I usually try to get as close as possible with out anybody seeing me. Otherwise I get help if they are far off. The pistol is pretty good at mid range for me so the only thing I ever miss is nades, sometimes I really wish I had some! But man that Dao is a bulldozer! I love coming around a corner and finding some support guy dishing out ammo to his squad and wasting them all. Did it last, night so fun!
