Hi fellow sufferers, I know this has been done BUT PLEASE READ THE BELOW before laying into me

The point of this post is quite obvious but before I start can I just clear up a couple of things.

1: I have searched this forum, other forums and Google and all the suggestions have been tried and have failed (Firewall off, Ports changed, Game reinstalled etc. etc.) I have a decent PC (ADSL Internet connection, 1.2mb RAM (approx), 3.2 P4, 9800 pro - I build my own systems so know a little about PCs)

2: I am NOT bashing the game I love it hence my desperation

OK back to the problem, about 2 weeks ago I was reaching corporal and my second unlock - brilliant for me I am a fairly bad player and this was a great achievement it meant I would unlock the Special forces weapon and be able to Snipe (1st unlock) and play SF my favourite classes, and sneak around in bushes...but that is a different story.

Then I began experiencing crippling “Your connection to the server has been lost” this is not once an hour but 3 - 4 times in one round???, this is not the “Your connection has been interrupted, no I get bounced back the screen where you chose your server.

WHY, I don't get it, my ISP is the same, my system has not changed - no new hardware or software at all, I play on many servers so it is not isolated to one, I play many different times as well so this is not the issue, I am stuck.

The reason for this post, advice and also to see if anyone else gets this. My major questions are below.

1: Does anyone else get this?
2: Could it be my ISP?
3: Could it be the game itself?
4: May the patch fix this?
5: If it is my ISP WHY IS EVERY OTHER GAME OK ONLINE
6: Any other suggestions for fixing this?

Look sorry but understand I love BF2 in time with patches it will be brilliant, but I just cannot play any more.

whenever i get connection issues about once every 1 week or so i just go into the bf2\pb folder and run the web update executable in there and update punkbuster and everything runs fine again for me

full server, i get it, 2-5 sec, very rarely

i think it is server side!

What sort of anti-virus are you running. You may have a virus on your computer that eats up connection speed. I had the same sort of problem and couldn't get rid of the virus. I had to format hard drive and start again. make sure you download all the service packs and updates for windows as well.

There is a chance it is your ISP but very unlikely. connection speeds tend to drop during peak times but if you've run the game fine for a long time before this then that prob isn't the drama.

The truth is it may just be the game. it is very heavy on all parts of your system. try defragging your HD as well and reinstalling the game.

Thanks for all the quick input, I knew I could rely on you lot, the suggestions above seem very feasable and i will try them tonight STUCK AT WORK NOW

there are a few tips around as far as making things a bit better on your connection. defrag is a good one, and there were 2 specifically regarding changes to your windows, that helped me out alot.

I found the problem not only happens to me, but also other players. I couldn't figure why this was happening until the other night (Few nights ago). Had the message "Your connection to the server has been lost." So, me still interested in a few more rounds in BF2. I find the server is up again, but now with 8 players out of 64 and a new map. So, their was something wrong with the server. Not the connection. I am thinking the server, has reached the amount of tickets to be played, and resetting itself to start the cycle over again.

Many servers have horrible lag issues that come up in the middle of games and wont go away unless the server is restarted. Seen it many many times. It basicly cripples EVERYONE in the game and no one has a good connection.

I have the same problem.. about once a game I will lose connection..

although I can play UT2004 for 10 hours straight and never lose
connection..

A buddy of mine has the same problem.. it is obviously as BF2 problem,
although I would check the things people posted here about.. but in my
case it isnt any of those, nor is it the servers Im playing on..

I agree not enough RAM, but what can you do with a a 3 year old daughter who eats money, do you think the RAM could be causing my problems here?

If so I will see if investing in more will help, if not why bother at the mo? I had no problems before so I dont think RAM is the issue

I have 1gb ram and I have no problems. Everyone suffers from a bout of the "kickouts" every now and then. 32 player servers are a lot more stable.

Could have been some idiot with a 128k connection trying to join a 64 player server pulling everyone else down?

you said 1.2 MB -- that means 1.2 megabytes
what you were trying to say was 1.2 GB
