    Realism VS Gameplay?

Ea AND Dice are becoming very sloppy with their work on the indecisiveness on realism and game environmentness

Things that go against realism even though they always try to make it "so" real

    -M95 is not a 1 shot kill
-You cant blow up mines or claymores or old C4s with other explosives... im pretty sure if i put a new c4 next to an old one and detonate it BOTH would explode
-The new patch is weakening BH guns
-The GL and AT missles Explosion Radius is highly limited and crappy
-The m16 sucks nuts even up close, i think if your holding any rifle 2mm away from a guy and u burst at his face he should die instantly...
-You cant shoot down someones parachute
    -No Flashbangs? Tear gas?
-Wheres my favorite pistol in all games at all times the DESERT EAGLE
    -Bunny Hop
    -Prone hop
    -You cant throw a knife?
-Wheres the Binoculars or in game Daytime Nighttime effect as the round progresses
-Not enough sniping areas or strategic mapping... The middle eastern cities have all kinds of buildings and hiding spots for soldiers in real life so why not put it into the game

    Gameplay

    -Spawnkilling?
-No disposable repair supplies for engineers?
-Almost impossible to get repair points?
-Have to play for years just to get medals and ranks?

I personally think that EA and Dice should go ALL out realism because this in between thing just gets ugly and sloppy and creates all sorts of problems

dude you should be glad m95 was oneshot kill. i remember Rainbow six when it first came out made the 50 cal sniper one hit kill and it really ruined the game. because people would run around and get really good at shooting you without scoping

The problem with realism is that is if it's all real, one shot to the head, and you wait 20 minutes to play again :p

Seriously though if you want some real games go find another game. EA/DICE isn't going to change the way the make games that are some of the most popular FPS games ever just because a few people want them more realistic.

Realism in a game wouldn't be any fun. People would sit on buildings, with their snipers picking off anybody within 250 meters and laughing while they are killing you. The thing about a one shot kill is that in Counter-Strike the AWP costs $4,750. Everything is free in this game, so if you unlock the M95 your invinceable.

yea i guess it might ruin things it would counter the GL big time but then it would get whored too so maybe they should add a long reload time or shorten bullet limit?

          Re: Realism VS Gameplay?

Flashbangs, Teargas, and Nightvision will be included in the Expansion.

          As far as realism goes...

          1) People are spoiled by crosshairs. If you don't use iron sights, you're not going to hit !@#$ in real life. We call that 'spray and prey'. This explains CQB accuracy issues, especially when you're not in a supported position or, worse, moving.

          2) Show me a military unit in the world that tells it's soldiers to THROW their knife (at that point, theoretically, their LAST weapon) and I'll buy you a beer.

          3) Desert Eagle? See point number 2. Nobody uses the .50AE, it's huge, expensive, has reliability issues, low magazine capacity, and even the best shooters can only put a few magazines through it before their wrists get numb (I can only manage one magazine myself).

          I smell a CS player...

I'd like it if BF2 were more like America's Army in that you had to QUALIFY for your weapons and kits. Offline training would improve the online experience and add depth to the BF2 'universe.'

At some point more real = less fun. Bring on the fun i say

Why would adding the Deagle make the game any more realistic? Poorly thought out post IMO, sounds more like the things that you want.

thats why this is called a game, and its gatta be a little balanced.

c4 is inert it doesnt explode without a detonator if im not mistaken

In the game, throwing C4 onto the front of your jeep and ramming it into a tank is enough of a detonator.......but it would also be true if in real life (with certain contributing factors!)

No it wouldn't. You could drop C4 off the Empire state bulding and it wouldn't go off. It's inert. It only goes off when you use a detonator (a smaller explosion that sets off a bigger one). You could tape c4 to a tank and drive full pelt into a building and it won't go off.

*reverts to contributing factors* like the jeep itself exploding/fire etc....i know it's inert but there are factors that act as the 'small explosion' you mention.....:)

                          Re: Realism VS Gameplay?

I think alot of it has to do with balancing rather then realism. As was mentioned with the M95 one shotting off the hip.

They could've fixed alot of balancing issues by making it as realistic as possible.

IRL a M1A2 can auto-aquire targets, fire while moving and hit whatever it's aiming at with decent accuracy. The turret doesn't bob up and down (it has auto stabalizers), a round from a 120mm gun with instantly incinerate almost anything it hits including: crappy little APCs (BTRs), blackhawks, jeeps, mini-vans, and of course planes.

Then again IRL a M1A2 is manned by a crew of four people. A commander, gunner, loader and driver.

They balanced the power per individual. One person controls a tank in BF2 instead of four. He gets a loss of power because he gets the ability to solely control a tank.

IRL a missile from a SRAW will instantly explodise decently armored vehicles (APCs, helicopters, mini-vans) in one shot then again IRL you can only carry ONE SRAW with your side-arm and main weapon because it's quite heavy.

They could've balanced out alot of the weapon power issues by limiting the amount of ammo you can carry to a level that would actually be seen IRL. I really don't understand how you pull six one foot diameter pipes out your arse.

IRL your blackhawks are limited to a couple thousand rounds of ammo (that might be a generous guesstimate) per gun. You know how fast a gattling gun eats a couple thousand rounds? In a few seconds (depending on the kind of gattling gun). I don't understand why EA didn't put ammo limitations on emplacements and let support refil them when they're empty. OMG things would be sort of balanced then.

IRL the phoenix system (the giant gattling turrets) on aircraft carriers is totally automated and it's primarily made for shooting down incomming missiles although it could be use for shooting down aircraft.

Then again I could suggest more then a dozen improvements they could very easily add to BF2 without making alot of changes that would drastically improve gameplay but it doesn't matter cause they won't read this or do anything about it anyway.

BTW you would need ALOT of C4 strapped to a jeep (with a heck of alot of speed) to destroy a M1A2 or a T-90 IRL. A RPG fired directly at the side of a M1A2 will scuff the paint.

Battlefield has never been about realism, but about gameplay. People got to understand that.

                              Re: Realism VS Gameplay?

BF2 isn't a real war simulator. It's closer to an Arcade FPS that just happens to be set in a modern warfare enviroment.

Problem with the 1 shot M95 is that the game does not have a realistic hit location system. Right now, a chest hit, leg hit, Toe hit, all do the same damage. Only a head hit kills instantly. Would the M95 kill in one shot if it hit your toe? They'd need to revamp the whole damage hit location system.

Biggest factor to make this game more realistic would be a 2 minute respawn time! Then people would fear dying. As it is now, people have no fear of death, they just rush crazy all over with little team work, just acting like it's doom or any other FPS. That's what really makes the game unrealistic.
