X800XL is a good card for it'sprice and is capable of great gameplay even by todays standards.

You can soft mod the X800 to a X850 if you want to save you lots of $ £

IMHO the X800 will run better with a soft mod than the 6600.
          But thats just me!

X800xl is a fine card, you should be able to play with what you have at 1024x768. If you want higher res. then you'll need a better card. Like the X800xl or 6800gt.

              Re: 9600xt Glitchy

I got a major problem with my 9800Pro.

              screenshot of my problem:

Sometimes I also got coloured polygons that cover almost my entire view, centered in the screen.

Both problems arise after a while of playing, about 50 minutes.

              - My GPU isn't too hot, I think. It's hot but I can easily hold my fingers on the heatsink without them hurting. So I bet it's around 60 degrees Celcius. It's not overclocked.
              - My CPU is only 40 degrees on full load. (AMD 64 3000+ not overclocked)
              - I'm pretty sure it's not a RAM problem either. Never had a problem with my current set.
              - I have the latest Catalyst drivers.

Anybody got a clue what I could do next?

                Re: 9600xt Glitchy

I can't seem to play BF2 without my PC crashing (resetting my system) after about 40 minutes.
I'm running ATI-Tool's Artifact Scanning now to see if that crashes my system. It could indicate a heat problem of my graphics card.

btw: HalfLife2 or any other game runs without problems, no other game crashes my PC.

My graphics card got hotter running the Artifcat Scanning (could touch it, but it hurt after a couple seconds) than during gameplay, but it did not crash my system.

So it's not a temperature problem.

ya i got the same problem with the same card, ended up getting these wierd shapes whenever i look in one direction of the map, then i turn arround and its gone...something to do with the lighting effects...
i ended up going back 2 versions of catalyst until it works again, just try that and it will work correctly, i think thats version 5.6
so dont spend money on a new video card, if you do, get the x700, its $200, i think the x800xl is like 500 bucks...

                        Re: 9600xt Glitchy

It depends on how savvy you are? If your MOBO + OS is runing ok then upgrade your CPU as 1.7 is min specs for BF2, and if air cooled, well, it will be running well hot and could be your problem as well (heat) "then" look at a vid card.
I'm running a 9600 XT on a 1.8 ghz and a gig of DDR...everyonce in a while I'll freeze for a moment, but I don't get glitchy after that. Have you tried omega drivers?

I second that, I use the omega 2.6 drivers and they work great for me. Except I have to keep my vid card nice and cool.
