I was playing on Dragon Valley map the other night. I was the gunner for USMC Chopper. We come up on a base and there is a APC - line up the TV Missle shot - let it rip. Now, I assume this missle can go through the chain link fence that the APC is behind - but - nope. No damage to the APC! How is that? A missle can't go through a chain-link fence?
Yea those fences are tough. I was in a apc and some guy was hiding from me behind the fence since the main gun can't shoot thru the fence. He thought he was clever until I switched seats and smoked him.

Try coding that into the game and tell us how it goes.
rockets, tank shells and apc cannon fire is 'too big' so the game says it cant go through. ea said the game had material penetration but it doesnt really. bullets can go through some stuff but anything thats actually drawn cant.

I think they used that little clause more than once in their interviews, the difference between cover and concealment thing. But apparently they need to learn the difference first so they can code it properly. If I can kill someone on the other side of a tin fence with APC rounds but not a chainlink fence, there's definately something to be fixed there. I'd like to see something like the geo-mod engine from Red Faction, except everything in the battlefield is deformable, but computers can barely run BF2 as it is without even being able to shoot through chainlink fences.
How is it they can code it so you can shoot through a wooden roof and kill someone - but not a fence? Come on.
You gotta point. Having said that, do we know for sure an actual TV missle won't explode when it goes through a chain link fence? If it does, then you have to think about splash damage.

I can understand a missile not going through a chainlink fence... obviously it just isnt possible due to the missile being bigger than the holes...
You must be new. BF2 has a material penetration system that allows you to shoot through walls, though it is very poorly coded and best left to mods to fix.. Just like everything else in the game, sadly.

So it "allows you to shoot through walls" just not a fence...got it.
yeah but missile should either knock down or drag the fense or explode when it hits. if it explodes when it hits, there should be splash damage going through the fence. i know if i'm behind a tin wall and something explode directly on the other side, like a vehicle or tank round, i die.
