its simple.
bullets can go through wood/tin/etc because all the game ahs to do is put some decals on the wall so it looks like holes. tank shells/missiles/etc would make big holes but since the maps are not moddable the game just wont do it.

is moddable a word?

yes. yes they can.

nade splash wont, tank shells wont, apc rounds wont, rockets wont. but bullets will. for reasons previously posted.

APC rounds usually go through the fences, just the rockets not.

I was playing on Dragon Valley map the other night. I was the gunner for USMC Chopper. We come up on a base and there is a APC - line up the TV Missle shot - let it rip. Now, I assume this missle can go through the chain link fence that the APC is behind - but - nope. No damage to the APC! How is that? A missle can't go through a chain-link fence?

The way a "normal" heat seeking or laser guided AA missles work are quite different than what most people assume. The missles are designed to explode close to the target and work entirely on splash or shockwave damage. This is due to the various corrections in direction required just to get the missle in the general area of its target.

APC rounds are different tho.

The real shame about this game is that it lacks what made HL2 such a great experience, The ability to interact with your surrounding environment for the most part.

Sure you've got bridges that'll blow, fuel trailers, barrels and a couple of other things, but that's about it.

Instead of creating their own flawed game engine, at least in regards to environmental interaction, they should have paid some money and utilised a tweaked Havok game engine for the in-game physics and object interaction.

You should be able to shoot canon shells through a chain-link fence and hit your target, regardless of whether it's a tank, APC or rocket you're using.

If it weren't for the vehicles, unlockables, specialized kits, and f00king awesome maps I'd still be playing CS:S. I think splash damage through the fence could be coded... Why not?

Missiles can go through certain objects without harm... These certain objects are tanks, APCs and other vehicles
