Snipers, CRANE = BAD

Christ.

Playing Sharqui (sp?) today, and I noticed that there was a sniper or 2 on the crane. So I switch over to the trusty M95 (btw, NO bullet drop aiming upwards at 400m).

Upon closer inspection, I discover a whole squad of clanmates are up there, about 3 snipers, a medic, and a supply I guess.

So I unload on em. Went through my entire ammo stash picking them out. As a matter of fact, they FINALLY found and sniped me just as I fired my last shot.

So I relocated. They didn't. More fun. Twice more, I relocated and kept nailing them. FINALLY they gave up. I looked at the scoreboard, to see how many kills they made up there, and they had an average of FOUR KILLS EACH. I had killed each one probably about 3 or 4 times, not counting the time our chopper strafed them.

So the moral of the story? DO NOT SNIPE FROM CRANES.

Cranes are pretty unoriginal spots to snipe from. When you're getting hit from a sniper, the first place you look is probably the crane, and nine times out of ten there's one up there. It's the snipers that pick bushes to hide behind or buildings to hide in that give me fits, because they're harder to find. The ones on the cranes are easy pickins.

I beg to differ since I do it all the time and absolutely ravage those below. Especially with m24. They must have really sucked or something but kudos to you for slapping those tards upside the head.

IMO, being on a Crane is totally safe if you stay in the center. Where it's impossible to reach you and kill you unless there is ground higher than the top of the crane. Grenades can't be thrown that high and everything, the only way to kill, through aircraft, or coming up there yourself. The hard part is getting up there, seriously. You're an easy target, enemy snipers hardly have to lead you as a target. And i mean, even a pistol could take you out when you're climbing.

On Sharqi if I see a sniper on a crane, usually I'll point it out and the heli will take him out.

Once my squad and I were defending the cp near the crane, and somebody points out the sniper. So I get out my AK-101, set it to single burst, fire a few shots and kill him.

Overall, I think the crane is a bad spot to hide.

The cranes are always an obvious place to be on the lookout for snipers. I really don't know why most seem to chose the highest points to snipe from as they are sitting ducks for me in a helo on the maps that have them.

i dont find it fun hanging out in a crane for a game, maybe for a min but i live to fire get a few kills, plant a claymore where i was and relocate. 8/10 times the guy you poped will goto where they think you are, so planting a claymore will work great, then find a spot and watch the fun. I did that once to a guy, 5 kills with rifle everything i relocate plant a claymore boom 2 extra kills, or he goes to the area i was once at i pophim when he stops to try and hear me. Ahhh good fun~!

The moral to the story is right here, and nobody seems to have figured that out. Snipers do not sit in one spot and pick person after person off.

I played on Sharqi today and menaced a group of 5-6 snipers the whole time. It was comical. I would pick one off, and move right away to a new location, and then another. They would go back to the exact same locations and not even look around to find me. It was funny.

To be effective, you need to move frequently to avoid being located.

Oh. Btw. I was waxing them as a medic. Who needs a sniper rifle.

Notes for Crane sniping:
1) Never, EVER go all the way up. Stay on the 2nd highest platform
2) Use M24 then M95. IN THAT ORDER. M24 > M95 > Type 88 & SVD, UNLESS you're close to your targets, then M95.
3) USE CLAYMORES!!!!!!!!
4) Allways overlook Stingers... They're sitting ducks in a stinger.

On the rare occasion I play sniper I will ude the crane form time to time, and yes eventually I get killed. But usually before this happens I rack up a few kills anyways, so 5 kills or more to one death isnt really saying that the crane isnt worth climbing up.

I usually dont go to a spot if i killed there once in the round or if I recevied fire there while i wa there.

It is possible to woop ass as a sniper from a crane, despite it being obvious, my best is 25 kills before i ran out of ammo. Depends on who you are playing against i guess. Some people killed by snipers will just spawn again and carry on what they were doing before, whereas if I am sniped from a crane/anywhere, I make it my mission to go and kill them back...

...yesterday i was commanding on Sharqi and the enemy had 5! snipers on the crane. As you can imagine my team just got shot lots as it is very difficult for them to deal with that many. The solution: send your chopper their way, byebye snipers...

I tried the old "sniper in a crane" routine once. Didn't much like it with the sniper kit. So I picked what everybody in the server called the "n00b kit" aka "Support" and went up as a MEC in the Oman map. Soon, the base around the crane was capped by the US team, and I got to have loads of fun tossing grenades down on their heads, and peppering everything around them.

2nd favorite place to do that is on that aparment building (again, MEC) with the diving board in Oman. Just watch the ladder.

I haven't done either of those in a long time, though. It can be good for a laugh, but I find that it shouldn't be over done, or people will get frustrated when they can't get at you and you keep mowing them down over and over. "All's fair in love and war" but I like a good, clean, fair fight.

It's almost like a law in Battlefield: chances are if you're being sniped, the sniper is in the most stereotypical sniper location possible.
