    30-50FPs??

Alright....Can somone explain how when I play Half Life 2 / Counter Strike Source I run my game at 1600x1200 with everything to the max. I mean 16x Anti and 6x AA, and I'm getting around 90-100FPS. But when I run BF2 It seems i can't get over 50FPS. I am even running the game with all low settings now except for texture and i'm still getting around 50FPS. What gives?
    I have a:
    AMD 3200 XP
    Asus A7N8X
    ATI X850XT PE
2x 512mb Corsair TwinX dual channel
    Soundblaster Live ;-(
Main drive is a Maxtor 80gig which matters none.......
    blah blah.....

Is it my processor? I mean I can even run Doom3 at 1600x1200 with high graphics......any suggestions....I have the latest Radeon ( as of yesterday) and latest drivers for my live card and mobo I cant seem to think of anything else.

Is there any tests a person can do with BF2. There is the Video stress test in Half Life 2 that I used....

I just don't know what else it could be....thanks for any input.

bf2 really needs 2gigis of ram for high settings

it is definite a BUG! and discussed many times before.. one thing you can test .. run BF2 in window mode (use shortcut -fullscreen 0) .. and if it uses 100% cpu usage even in main menu.. then somehow the game gives you crappy performance

tested on 2 different systems (same cpu) and one pc causes that 100% usage and one not.. and the system with the normal cpu usage runs perfectly smooth

I think it is because of your sound drivers. Creative released a beta version for the Audigy series to resolve a performance issue on the openAL for BF2. Might want to check that out and ensure you have the latest OpenAL drivers.

BF2 is also much more demanding then CS:S and HL2.

Shamus - I only have a Soundblaster Live though. Do they use the same drivers?

KingOfKhaos - Oh don't get me wrong I understand this, but LOW settings and 50FPS?

bosx2 - Do you know how i could search this in the forum? Is there a semi fix? As in reinstall or something

Thanks for all the quick replies

                Re: 30-50FPs??

just browse throu the pages.. no real fix, only some little improvements
                - use latest x-fi driver (support audigy too)
                - replace openal wrapper with latest real openal
                - set pci latency to 32

by the way, you get 100% cpu usage too?

bosx2 - I don't know how to go to a window screen from the menu. I tried to bring down the console to type in it but it wouldn't let me during the menu. Any suggestions and I'll let you know if i get the 100% cpu usage.

                    2 gigs

                    delete the "cache"

                      Re: 30-50FPs??

Set sound to Hardware/medium quality/eax enabled. Graphics to 1152x864 or 1280x960 with all settings on medium except antialiasing 2x, view distance 100% and texture filtering high. Set AA & AF in Catalyst control panel to application preference. set vsync to application preference or always off. Go into My documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and delete folders inside. Your BIOS settings can also affect performance. Memory timing, memory speed, AGP aperture size(should be 256mb), AGP speed, system performance etc. Make shure your memory is running in dual mode.

                        Re: 30-50FPs??

Wasp - Ok I had my AGP Apeture size to 64mb. What exactly is that? I changed this to 256. And it seems to be a bit smoother. I took of the 2x Antialiasing and i'm getting around 60ish FPS. I guess some more tweaking is in store.

What should i expect to be getting?

the game is using 100% of my CPU, when in game, which is making me not get the right fps? any ways to sort this? without updateing me pc, have only just updated, with new gfx card, ram, etc

just create a shortcut and add this in the shortcut: +fullscreen 0
or run the bf2.exe from command line and type this:
                            bf2 +fullscreen 0

then you can see if BF2 bugs on you

I have about the same spec as you, except 2 gb ram!
                              (same problem)
                              low frames with x850pe
I swear i get more frames from 1600x1200 than 800x600!
