you might take a look in:

\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings\VideoDefault.con

and change the following line to 1:

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

thats the only thing i can think of and ive had problems with that in other ea games. might be worth a try.

Awake: All I can suggest to you is, if you want to be sure then pick up an old HD or buy a cheap one and format it. Install XP and only BF2. See what happens. That way you don't have to lose what's on your current HD.

Well I had this problem a while ago when I brought my system to a friends house. I changed my net settings to play on his conn, except my game wouldn't start up! That's when I started getting ****ed and threw things and was about to start kicking in my computer when i realized that would be alot of money to replace it. Anyways when I brought it back home, applied my default settings i normally use (the ones i used when i installed the game) then BF2 started right up. So I went and owned some more noobs. Anyways about 10 minutes ago I went and look at my ATI settings and was about to mess with some things to play with my video settings and see if I could make this game look better. I turned on the overdrive thing for ATI and I think i touched the antialiasing. I only TOUCHED it. I moved it over and moved it back after thinking that I just wanted to try the overdrive first. I go to start up BF2 and it started doing the same thing. I'm thinking that it's installed on certain specs and doesn't like to be changed. Although I went back into my video card settings and put back anything i changed. Game still didn't start up. PHUQ THiS PIECe OF SHlT GAMe!

So my advice to you is to do what all these other guys said. Reformat, install windows, update everything known for windows, update all your card settings, and THEN install bf2 after everything is set. If it still doesn't work, do this...
Get a gun. Go to dice headquarters and demand one of their kick-a$s systems. Make sure you tell them that you'll shoot their balls off if they don't comply with your demands. Get the computer and run. If your fat like me you're better off just walking and make sure noone is going to jump you. Once you get the computer back home start up BF2 and begin to own noobs.

or you can just sell your current version of BF2 and play other (better) games like HL2 or perhaps the upcoming FEAR. Maybe even COD2 if you're interested.

yeah, I've already beaten hl2 3 times or so. I'm definately going to get fear. And quake4 as well.
I still want to play this damn game though. I looks fun, but I wouldn't know.

well, I formatted and reinstalled windows...everything works good now...still not sure what caused the problem????

Hey awake were u only able to play when u patched to 1.02? I kind of have the same problem u do except I can only play without patching. If I do patch, once I open the game it goes to a black screen then crashes to desktop. I am thinking about reformating myself but I just want to make sure.

no, it worked before and after patching..

If formatting isn't too big of a deal, I would recommend it...

I still think this damn game should work without having to reformat.....

It is fun as hell to play though :-)
