CTD....again I know.....

I've been trying to get this game working for 2 weeks now...I've been through all the info I can find on the internet and no success.

First my specs:

Amd athlonXP 3200+
asus a7n8x-x mboard w/ nforce2
Ati x850 xt
1 gig ram (generic)
500w power supply
19" viewsonic gs790

catalyst 5.8s (at the moment)

All bios,drivers, etc updated

When I open the game I get the black screen and then bounce back to desktop. No error messages.

I've tried deleting the files in my docs...
I've tried 5.1, 5.6, omega 5.7's, some ngo drivers.....
I'vce reinstalled the game twice....
I've tried it with the patch and without.....
No I don't have any iomega/ zip drive type stuff...
I don't have any resolution forcing progs running...
FWIW, if the cd isn't in, I get the screen that tells me to insert cd....

This system plays all other games flawlessly (F.E.A.R., doom3, halflife2, pariah, dungeon siege2, microsoft flight sim 04.....)

I can't believe that eagames would release such a buggy POS....I've had trouble with games before, but I've always been able to solve them, this is driving me mad....

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I've searched this site and everyother site that I could find.....

Download Everest Home Edition and check the voltages on your rails.

Also, download Cats 5.8 withOUT the CCC (inother words, just ATI Control Panel).

Uninstall your current dirvers and use a program called DriverCleaner3 per his instructions on his site. (http://www.drivercleaner.net)

Once that is done, install the drivers you just downloaded.

Next preform a manual uninstall of Battlefield 2: http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/e...i=&p_topview=1

Once you are sure that you have everything removed. Reinstall the game.

It may seem...menotonous but if it works, it will be worth it. Most likely something got messed up in the driver install or something else along those lines.

The game isn't a "buggy POS". Hell I have never had a problem with the game period. Its usually just something on your computer, either software, or something that the user does, that interfers with the games ability to run properly.

well, i installed the patch....and it still doesn't work.
I might just have to wait until they fix it...possibly with the 1.03 patch, dunno

All I can say is what the King already has. That rig should work fine, but I'd check the voltages. Do you run alot of accesories like fans, lights, DVD, CD, multiple HD's, liquid cooling?

This issue is typically caused by a conflict with the video card or video card drivers. Make sure your video card meets the requirements for the game, and that your drivers are the newest version available from the manufacturer.

The supported video cards are as listed below:

ATI Radeon

NVIDIA GeForce

6600 (PCIe), PCX 5900 (PCIe).

FX 5950 series, FX 5900 series, FX 5700 series.

If you are not using one of these video card chipsets, the game may run improperly or may not run at all. The game was tested to communicate properly with the aforementioned chipsets using the newest drivers. If you have one of these cards but are still experiencing the issue, it is likely that the drivers you have are not the newest manufacturer version.

Note that if you have a ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card (this does not apply to AGP or PCI Express cards), you may experience this issue even after updating your drivers. Although this card meets the memory requirements for running the game, when tested it was not able to run the game with a stability adequate enough to make the official supported video card list in the Readme for the game. Updating your video card drivers as well as your motherboard firmware may help to resolve this issue. Please refer to your video card manufacturer for further instruction.

Your only other option would be to start fresh. I mean reformat the entire thing. It could be that there is another driver such as your audio or motherboard driver. Did you try updating these as well?

If you haven't then do so. If you have, then the only other thing you can do is reformat the machine.

King: Theoretically, could you use DriverCleaner to remove all drivers from your system and when you reboot wouldn't it be similar to a fresh install as Windows would search for and install new drivers for all the components? Just a random thought, I may be way off base.

Theoretically yes. If it will work I'm not sure. DriverCleaner only cleans the drivers he has listed in the program. And most of them are common drivers, such as ATI Graphics, Nvidia Graphics, Nvidia Motherboard, Creative Audio, things to that nature. So I'm not sure as though you would be able to completely remove all drivers.

As far as being a fresh install of Windows? No. Due to programs and things that also install files which may conflict with BF2. Although this is unlikely to happen, if a certain file is in use by more then 1 program at a time, it can sometimes cause problems.

Yeah, I've used and continue to use DriverCleaner and it also had my chipset drivers listed. That's where I came up with that. I actually hosed my setup when I updated my chipset drivers. I couldn't even boot up and then tried to clean and reinstall the originals in Safemode and then just got BsOD every boot. Needless to say it was format time.

Haha, yes you have to be catious with things like chipset drivers.

Luckily I have a DVD burner and keep backups of all my important files and folders which makes a reformat and reinstall a very simple project which causes me no aggrevation....Thank God. I hate chipset drivers.

I have a file server in my basement, which is great. I can restore all my files in about 30 minutes or so.

Wel, i'd like to do a reformat, but I've just got far too much stuff on my computer that I don't want to have to reinstall. Lots of progs and over 35 gigs of music (yes I have a large cd collection) ....Plus I just formatted about 4 months ago......I would REALLY hate to do all that work to find out that it still didn't work......

btw, ALL of my drivers are updated.

Checked my voltages this morning, they are all fine. I've got 4 fans total, yes it runs cool.

I feel like there are no other possibilities...what the hell could it be?
There are some known issues w/ windows sp2, that might be causing it???

I would really like to play this game, seeing that I paid 50 bucks for it....
