motion sickness is a result of the eyes/ears/brain have some form of disconnect

eg if you have a BIG screen, (or sit very close to your small screen, and ALL you see is a LOT of apparent motion, but your ears (the part of your body that senses motion) feels no motion, then your brain goes "huh??? - am I moving or not???)

this is the SAME RESULT as REAL motion sickeness
which is caused by the Opposite effect in a vehicle
especially when you are sitting in the back = this is when your body feels the motion, but your eyes do not see the motion (ie looking at teh back of the seat in from of you - ergo folks in the front seat get motion sickness way less often)

someone suggested sitting back from your monitor - technically this makes sense
so does taking a break every game - even by just tilting your head around and looking at the room (ie not the monitor)
and do NOT have your room totally dark
if the monitor is ALL that you can see - then your brain is tricked even more
First time i learned something useful off a fourm. This also explains why i get sick while reading in a car very well. :dead:

as for playing games and getting sick, ive found that sitting farther away from your screen helps alot, and sitting in a bright room.

I used to have that with BF2 when I got my new 19" LCD monitor but it never happened with my old 21" CRT. I lowered the refresh rate to 60mhz and it was fine after that.

Wow, this is a very interesting post, I personally think people will begin to see more of this in the future, in the future load times may be reduced to zero, meaning you aren't looking around the room at all, there will be photo realistic graphics, the camera movements will be more advanced, and more rapid.

Personally I find this a VERY interesting subject.

It due to the fact that your mind thinks your moving but it doesn't relate to your body it happened on the first tilting trains in england due to the fact they made them feel like they weren't tilting but when people looked out the window they saw they were.
It happens to me sometime when driving the hover boat thing.

it is NOT the quality of the game
it is the fact that you are "MOVING THROUGH" a visually rich environment
as I said above, the original "castle wolfenstein" had plain checkered walls, and that made a lot of us sick

Mario had no similar effect, not because the graphics were simple, but because you did not move through the world, he moved through his

the most dramatic effect will be from LARGER screens (multi-screens) that consume more of our total field of view

ever visit the 360 degree screens at Disney?
when the plane "flys" through the canyons, and banks??

Re: Motion Sickness in some maps!

Fast moving games I end up getting motion sickness. Examples: Tribes2, Half-Life, Half-Life 2. CSS. I noticed in graphic engines if you move around really fast, you will get this. Although, you can see on the graphics, that it is curved (Like a fish eye). This will help on getting that funny motion sickness when moving at a fast pace.

Here is some links to show (examples). So you can imagine what you are seeing while playing.

                              Images (Click)

                              Image Warped "Fisheye" (Click)

I never get motion sickness in BF2, and also Ofp/Resistance, Swat4, Ghost Recon (Slow movements). But never know from others in BF2. I do have a 17inch TFT monitor (A year now), and it has been pushed back far as I can get it. I also do computer animations.

I've tried moving monitor back. This sickness is to do with how the textures load in the enviroment on maps Fushe pass and Kubra dam. Like how the mountain texture will sort of suddenly "Mould" as you get near it. I've got textures low but would like to reduce them even more. In Bf 42 you could reduce textures by playing with mipmap bias does anyone know how you do it for BF2?
