    Re: Sniping.

That might explain why its harder to snipe with the m95. I have never used bullet drop compensation with the m24 and ive had no problems at any range.

**if the m95 does have bullet drop - nice one dice for a good gameplay balance feature. I mean, an unlockable gun thats better - but only if you can use it.

It hardly has any compared to the M95, just a small bit, but still enough to cause you to miss those really long shots.

          Re: Sniping.

I guess if there's one tip that I can give it's that you need to practice a lot on each map a lot. I know this sounds obvious but it definitly helps me in a place like Mastur City where I have about 5 or 6 different sniping spots to choose from. Also, on maps that I'm familier with I always find it easier to spot snipers since I always check the spots I go to first.

Another tip that I've got is to use claymores. I'm the kind of sniper who likes to go up onto buildings and rooftops occasionally so I almost always leave claymores at the top of ladders. This is almost invaluable to me in Mastur City where a lot of spots are on top of buildings. I have heard concerns about claymores being tk bait and for a while I never used them because of that fear. However, I think more and more people now use their 3d map while playing than before since I haven't gotten a claymore tk in a long while. Also, placing claymores slightly around corners is good for places like Karkand and other maps with lots of streets and buildings.

            Re: Sniping.

I like to shoot 3-4 kills from any one spot and slowy back away or flank my target. So that if they decide they want to go where they either saw me or know I am I will be watching from another spot adjacent to them.

I will then shoot them again and retreat again leaving a claymore or two in that spot. After that I setup at very long distance and harass them after a minute or two when they think I have left.

Eventually you run out of ammo and are forced to get stupid or ask for a crate. I use this tactic mainly on the Daqing or whatever oilfieds at the chinese airfield facing down towards their attack helicopter spawn.

-Setup at the far right guard tower facing towards the spawn so they will easily spot you after you killed them once or twice. Then while they are dead run to the other guard tower and hope they come up to your last position. If one comes up kill him, however if two come up jump out of tower set a claymore and shoot at them.

Retreat to the treeline using the tower as a blind to the enemy and let them get blown up.

Great tactic on that map and works best with the m24 for easy accuracy.

              Re: Sniping.

I found yesterday that the SVD also has bullet drop.

On Sharqi I was capping the flag in the construction yard bit in the middle, shooting at people on top of the TV tower where the Cobra attck chopper spawns. As it was a considerable distance away and also elevated, I found I had to aim quite a bit above my target to get a hit.

                Re: Sniping.

Thats because you where shooting upwards at a target of higher elevation, which causes the bullet drop on all guns to increase, especially the M95.

Doesn.t really explain why ive missed people with the m95 from point blank (20-50 meters), seen a puft of dust on the targets head and not even hurt them.

Yah thats bad netcode, happens in a lot in online games such as Halo pc for one(terrible net code) where shots dont register as hits sometimes. You shot at the target when really he wasnt yet there on the host/server, but he was there on your screen. This makes it appear as a hit on your screen, but really the shot did not registered on the host/server.

Ok, first off there is no bullet travel time, none, nadda, zip.

Lead them sure, when they run into your crosshair hit the trigger, obviously most people tend to think trigger right before because they are moving and thus you feel like you are leading them.

                          ZERO BULLET TRAVEL TIME

Also to those who belive there is bullet drop, there is but not enough to be noticeable. I'm sorry but I pull head shots at almost non visible range, ie I can BARELY BARELY BARELY see an outline of their body, I put the crosshair on head and pop.

We went and tested your bullet drop THEORY earlier tonight, and found that it is not true to any extent. There is diviation, just like the weapon chart we have all seen says there is, but even that is negligable if you take certain precautions.

Here is a trick I have learned that REALLY helps. (*disclaimer:* You really need to practice getting into the habit of doing this to notice the effects, however once you do it a couple times to test it, you will realize the benefit.)

Stop moving your rifle- I know this sounds asinine. "how can I kill people if I don't move my gun, you crazy bastard?!?!"

Example, if you see a guy crouched behind a box, he's not moving, he's waiting for something. But he doesn't see you and you have a perfectly lined up headshot. For some reason when you fire you miss...

"WTF, HOW DID I MISS YOU SAY." and then you attribute that to bullet drop or some malarky like that.

Try this: once you get a bead on him, wait a few seconds. I usually count to 2. If you are trying to shoot at someone moving, put your crosshairs out infront of their head (yeah I know it takes some ESP gaming but after a while you start to be very good at predicting people's movement.) When their head enters cross hair, pull trigger.

Basically, I've found I miss WAY less shots if I let my crosshair rest for 2 seconds before firing. Now granted, sometimes you have to make those split second crack shots, and sure we all do. But if you have a good position and have good lines of fire, waiting a couple seconds and lining up good shots will really help out your sniping.

well .. there is no "bullet travel time" but there is lag so if you got a ping of 25ms the time between what you see and the time between the server registers you pulling the trigger is ~2*25ms

anyways that "M95 doesnt hit point blank" problem doesnt seem to be a netcode problem, otherwise I wouldnt be able to hit someone with my precious m24 in the same situation.

                              You talking about being unscoped?

You want to see something stupid - go into scope view - mark your monitor where the crosshair is. Then get out of scope mode - stand in front of a wall or vehicle - aim that spot on your monitor at a specific part of the wall and fire.

You will not hit the same spot twice - it is horrible - and none of them are remotely close to where they should be. If you are unscoped, I can understand what you mean.

Do this same thing with the AT weap - and you will be dead on with every shot - you can still guide it - and the item shooting at does not get a warning lock sound since you never hit them with the scope view.
